Kitic, I think BlueForLife was opposed to retiring the NUMBER, not the Jersey, just as we have done in the past for people like Steve Young. If we kept retiring numbers for quarterbacks, with all the outstanding QBs we have had and we will have, eventually our quarterback would be #88, or something like that!

Correct, and I pointed that out in my post as well. I do believe that there are two numbers that actually are retired. #40 for Eldon Fortie and #81 for Probst (I think it is) who was killed in a car accident or something or other.

Correct! I would love to see Ty's jersey retired. It's just the number I
wouldn't like to see retired.

Could you imagine if you were a Qb not being able to pick from these numbers if they were all retired.

6-Bosco
8-Young
9-Mcmahon
14-Detmer

Maybe one day
12- Beck (In 30 years, if he does something in the NFL)
15-Max Hall, His legacy has yet to be written.....

In connection, unsubstantiated rumor connected with this hopeful honoring of possibly the greatest Cougar of all-time (Detmer vs. Young vs. McMahon, I personally vote for Ty) is that during the same half-time of honoring Ty, BYU will also honor Gifford Nielson.......the other #14. Not taking anything away from what Gifford did for BYU football, because I do believe he did help kick the QB Factory into high gear, but does anyone else feel that it would be a sign of disrespect to expect Detmer to share his jersey-retirement ceremony with someone else? I hope this connected rumor is doesn't get off the ground. I'm all for honoring Nielson at a different time, but not at the same time as Ty.
