Did he ever beat Texas, or a number 1 Miami team, no he beat Northern Colorado's school of interior design. Enjoy that inflated record.[/quote]
Just remember that BYU was in the "WAC" (which was considered the weakest conference like how we're viewed today) so most of TY'S record breaking performances were on weak teams like Utep, wyoming, Utah state, Utah, New Mexico and yes you did beat TEXAS & MIAMI but what happen when you played OREGON, HAWAII & TEXAS A&M? (5 interceptions, a heisman trophy beating, and a broken collar bone)
So "don't go there" with the weak schedule excuse cause in 2005 Colt put up some impressive numbers on USC, MICHIGAN STATE, and SAN DIEGO STATE. In 2006 he did the same against ALABAMA, PURDUE AND OREGON STATE.
Blame Michigan and others like BYU (who refuse to play us because of the turf? yeah right you guyz just got thrashed!) for dropping out of our schedule (Colt would've run up some crazy #s on Broncos Boyz) We're up for any challenge and would go anywhere and play any team. We don't make excuses, we don't blame others we just play football and let our record 12-0 and BCS BOUND speak for itself.

Wait! So let me understand this right! Detmer throws five interceptions against Texas A&M. With two seperated shoulders, and you wanna compare that too Brennan throwing five interceptions against Idaho?! Ya those two teams are totally comparable! That's great with all the numbers that he put up! But how many of those did they actually win?! My guess would be very few or not at all? I haven't paid attention because Hawaii football hasn't been relevant till this year.
I'll admit a game between The cougs and the bows would be a good game. But if the bows were to come to provo. Hawaii had three games where they were lucky to win. Lousianna Tech, San Jose State, and Nevada! The cougs are better then all three of those teams! And have way more of a better home field advantage then either of those teams! The bows wouldn't stand too much of a chance! If we played down in Hawaii. It would be a tough game. And it would be a tough win! But I would like our chances! And the blowout loss too Georgia will speak for itself as well! Go Cougs!

Most of the guys here on this site are convinced every year that BYU is BCS material and that this is the Lord's football team:laugh: and so it is superior. I wish we could access the material on these boards from '04 to prove my point.
You mean like this? (I gave up after the AZ prediction this year. Just way too much material to try to keep track of)

Bowl game again

1. Oregon is going to be more hungry for a win
2. The Ducks are faster and more athletic
3. Brown and Vakapuna will have minimal success running the ball and as a result, Beck will be forced to throw a lot against the Pac 10's best pass defense. For 3 quarters, Utah shut down Brown and Vakapuna and what happened... Beck was shaky and ineffective and his confidence went way down.
4. Oregon's running game
5. BYU's overrated pass defense
6. BYU's strength of schedule (84)
7. Oregon's strength of schedule (6)
8. BYU's track record in bowl games (7-24)
9. The Cougs' inconsistent special teams play
10. Oregon's new helmets
Bowl Game again

Now, having said that... I don't think BYU could beat any of these three teams right now. A slumping Oregon team is still better than BYU... they're quicker, more athletic and had they not made a few crucial mistakes against USC, they're right in that game. I can promise you this much... whichever team it is of these three will show just how fortunate BYU has been playing in the lousy MWC.
General Stupidity
Airwolf84 wrote:
BYU will not break into the top 25 because they are beating crappy teams in a very weak conference that are ranked in the cellar nationally (CSU was #86), not to mention the fact that they lost to a Pac 10 and ACC team. BYU is beating high school caliber football teams right now, it's as simple as that. CSU rushes 23 times for 26 yards and barely hits 150 yards total offense? The MWC is a DUMPY league and the coaches and media know it, which is why BYU is not going to get any love.

Defense, defense, defense. They are going to have a D just as good, if not better, than what Arizona brought. They also have a decent offense to go with it. BYU will have trouble scoring in this one.

BYU 16

Thread Title: Why Tulsa will win
1. Their offense is better than BYU's
2. Their defense is better than BYU's
3. They are a faster team with better athletes
4. They return 9 guys on a solid defense and 7 on offense, among them, QB Paul Smith, who is a candidate this year for the Davey O'Brien award. After Saturday, BYU fans will know who Paul Smith is!
5. Kragthorpe is a better head coach than Bronco and he has had 2 extra days to prepare for BYU
The only hope BYU has is running the football because Tulsa's D line isn't all that big. If they can somehow control the flow of the game by running with Curtis and Vakapuna, they'll stay close enough to keep it interesting. If not, forget about it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tulsa win the game convincingly. Even Hans Olsen (if you guys can remember who he is) predicted a Tulsa victory. Tulsa's only weakness on D is their line since they are somewhat undersized, so if Brown and Vakapuna can both rush effectively, BYU will stay in the game. However, I just think Tulsa's DB's and secondary will be too much like Arizona's, thus giving the Cougs fits throwing the ball.
Arizona had no offense at all, but Tulsa does, which is why I think you have to lend more credence to the notion that BYU wins the game since Arizona beat BYU with defense only, whereas Tulsa brings both an offense and defense to the table. I think we're going to start seeing just how vital Watkins was to the offense, even though his receiving stats weren't very good. Speed=respect and BYU does not have speed at the WR position, which is why you only saw one deep ball against Arizona. Spreading the field is going to be difficult for the Y this year.
Another great prediction

Jared, I concur with everything you said, except that the final score will be reversed in Arizona's favor. BYU's defense should pretty much manhandle anything Arizona tries to throw at them, however, Tuitama has something going for him that Hall does not... game experience. This is where the game will be decided. True, the Cats should be mediocre offensively, but they should have more success against BYU's defense than the Cougar offense will against their D. Realistically, this game could go down as one of the most offensively inept of the college football season. 'Zona's D will stifle anything BYU tries to do, especially considering the fact that the Cougs will have a non-existent rush attack... this is what will make it tough for Hall on the day. Your score prediction is ironic... I'm picking the Cats 17-10, but that might even be too generous for both offenses.

UH catches enough crap from BCS teams. Why don't we just go ahead and support them. This silliness reminds me a bit of Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's home run record. He was villified for doing it to the great one.
I think Ty Detmer is a better QB and a better person.
I have seen Colt Brennan play against very good teams the two previous years and two teams at the end of this year that are decent enough to respect. He is a very good college quarterback.
It is unfortunate that fans here cannot be as gracious as Ty Detmer has been on this topic.
I do not know Colt personally. I don't know what he did in Colorado and what he learned from mistakes that he made. I do know that I have not heard of problems here in Hawaii.
I hope Colt Brenan has learned from his mistakes.
I do not know if UH can beat Georgia. I do know that Colt Brennan will acquit himself very well against any team in these United States most days when he is healthy.
If he gets held to 300 yards, cut him some slack. If he throws for more yards than any team has thrown this
year against the boys from Georgia even though they know he is going to throw on almost very down, give him some credit.
Max Hall will be a great college QB. Leading a team to 12-0 against any schedule is a daunting task, however. Even in this year of everyone rolling over every week, only one team did it. Let's not villify Max if he loses 1 or 2 games every year.
Thank you Cougarbib2 I respect your comments. I do not wish to bash with people but when people ridicule the accomplishments of others and their past? I will defend what's right especially if they are people who I personally know. "YOU BELIEVE IN MAX, I BELIEVE IN COLT. They're both great qbs so let's just leave it at that.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL FROM 50TH STATE!

Yeah man. SDSU isn't a team to brag about putting any kind of numbers up on. These are interesting examples anyway. Michigan State? Oregon State?
This comparison isn't going to work. You can't compare two players that played on very different teams against very different opponents in different eras. You can throw out what numbers you want. Now, the real question is, who would you let date your daughter?
