Payne was 10/14 on field goals and 43/45 on PAT's.
Sorenson was 15/23 on field goals and missed one PAT.
Be careful to annoint Sorenson as the solution to our kicking game before he even steps foot on campus. He's a fine recruit, but Payne WAS more accurate this year and isn't that the bottom line for kickers? Granted I don't know how far Sorenson's misses were from, but I do know that he missed some closer ones in big situations.
Payne was solid the last part of the year, and he'll only get better and healthier next year. Sorenson was ok too and probably has the stronger leg, but there's definitely no way to say he's more accurate.
My prediction for next year is that Payne will once again win the primary placekicking job with Sorenson booming balls out of the end zone on kickoffs. If we have a chance for a long FG at the end of a half, Bronco might give Sorenson a chance there as well.
The bottom line is that other than hit a handful of long field goals in high school, Sorenson hasn't done much to warrant the amount of praise and attention he is getting. Remember that Payne made 55+ yarders in high school too.
Oh, and I've said it before... It is and ABSOLUTE joke that Sorenson was named Gatorade POY. I have nothing against the kid, but there were kids who did FAR more to help their teams win this year than him.
