And NOBODY can complain about the play call at the end of the half to just give it to Harvey. Not one of you, even if you say you would, would have called a QB kneel. EVERYONE would say just give it to Unga, let him get 2 yards, and end the half. If he breaks something, then good for him. Your a liar if you say you'd call a knee
I turned to my son and said they should take a knee to end the half. Even the coaching staff has acknowledged that might have been a good idea. Can you?

How many 95 yard run plays has BYU had in its history.
0 - the longest run on record is 93 yards by Weldon Jackson 1958.
How many times have we had a 95 yard drive with 20 seconds on the clock.
0 - but we did have a 97 yard pass Detmer to Drage 1991 and an NCAA record. There was not 20 seconds left at the half when the play happened.
Every coach downs the ball at the half with less than 20 seconds on the clock and over 90 yards to go.
I understand it would be different if we were at the 35 and a turnover doesn't guarantee a touchdown for the other team.
Anae and Bronco accepted responsibility, why can't Harlinestillopen. Bronco and Anae have both said they would not do it again.
Thanks for creating another forum for us to complain.
The last time we blocked a field goal prior to Vegas - 2001 Jutin Ena at San diego State.
how long was that run by Braithweight (sp?) in like 2002? I'm pretty sure that was over 90 yards.
First off, Lair was strong, and I'm sorry for calling, what looks like, this whole board a liar. I'm sorry. I however would not have taken the knee. I'm not saying that Harvey would have broke anything. Infact, would have been suprised if he would have gotten more than 5 yards, considering what UCLA's Defense was doing against the run. BUT, what if he would have. What if he would have gotten 5 yards. 2 yards. 0 yards. Nobody would be saying anything.
Thats the point I'm trying to get across, if Unga would have gotten 0-5 yards, no body says a thing.
I still think it was a smart call and just poor exicution. I'm not going to change my mind on this. Sure looking back on it, taking a knee would have been a good choice, but thats only because Unga fumbled it. How many fumbles did Unga have this year? like 4 maybe? The odds were pretty good to just run it up the middle. I could see everyone saying it was a bad call if it would have been some reverse or counter, or option or something like that. but it was just a simple run up the middle, no chances were taken

The whole of the season (11-2) outweighed the problems that occurred within the games themselves. The best part is that the coaching staff is young and immature but BYU still put up two 11 win seasons. Eventually Bronco and Anae will be seasoned veterans at their positions and with the right talent base and a little luck an undefeated season is a real possibility in the future.

I think the problem is in calling it a "smart" call. It wasn't a smart call. The smart call was to take a knee and go in up by two scores when you were not seriously entertaining scoring. Now if Unga rolls off the pile and scores on a 95 yard run a la Mike Hague, it looks genious. However, you have to play the percentages in this situation.
The best percentage for going in up by two scores was to take a knee. Fumbles happen in the center-QB exchange, but the victory formation puts plenty of people around to jump on the ball (hence my observation that it was a weird looking victory formation).
I will agree that the execution was the main problem. Running the ball was not as risky as say, dropping back to throw a hail mary--a good way to get a sack and a safety, or throwing a WR screen--a good play for a pick for six in that situation. However, the point is that the risk in running the ball given the circumstances should have outweighed the slim chance of reward.
That being said, we got away with it and I don't think it will happen again. I am sure Bronco and Anae saw how much the turnover and score swung momentum in UCLA's favor. I think the second half would have played out differently had we not given up that fumble turned into a touchdown. We would have had the momentum and played more to win than not to lose.

KYCoug, while I tend to agree with you regarding the success of the season, don't you think the forum would get pretty boring if every one shared the same views? Isn't hard to have a discussion if everyone agrees? You may not agree with everyone but isn't that the point of a discussion board?
I've been a long time homer/optimist on this board, but one thing that drives me nuts is when people start telling others how to post. It's one thing to give a counter argument, it's another to tell everyone who disagrees with you to stop. But, if that's your style that run with it, just don't be suprised when not everyone agrees.
Please... would you just stop talking about "stop phases" and cycles?
