What it means is that you can only play the teams that are on your schedule.
BYU played 13 games in 1984 amd won them all. BYU took heat for its schedule. The name "BY Who" was invented. That was the year I really developed a deep seated hatred for Oklahmoma and it's long forgotten coach and sports commentator Bryant Gumballs.
The bowl officials tried to negotiate to get Nebraska or others to swap and play BYU. They all declined$$$$$$. I also learned to hate Bo Schembechler after it was rumored that he encouraged his players to take the cheap shot at Bosco's knee.
Bosco limped out with heart and courage and led BYU to the Championship. BYU deserved that national championship.
The big boys felt differently and the BCS was born to make sure it never happened again.
I have been frustratd this season on this board to hear all of the criticism of the UH schedule. I was doing a search a few minutes ago to find the BYU 2008 schedule and found a ranking of the 2007 schedules with BYU at 92 and UH at 96.
I just suggest we keep a little humility and all unite to hate the BCS and support every low life dog that lies low in the dirt waiting to have its day. It will be interesting to see if June Jones can parlay his $2M deal at SMU into another miraculous turnaround like he made at UH.
The boosters funded that for SMU. Let us hope the boosters in Provo keep Bronco Mendenhall happy. UH offered Jones $1.6M to stay. The oft mentioned Norm Chow has once again had his name come up for the UH job.
He or anyone else might be crazy to even take the job and Jones might have been crazy to stay with Brennan gone and at least one receiver leaving early for the NFL Draft. The Athletic Director will take the fall and get the axe.
Let us all be grateful for what we have.
