2008 Schedule Released; Opener vs. Northern Iowa 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 5
W/ apologies to whiteshoes, who posted this 11 min. before me. I thought it deserved its own thread.

I guess in I-AA they're one of the better teams. And on short notice, needing a HOME game, they're probably about the best Holmoe and Co. could do.

I'm okay with this.

According to Sagarin, they're the best 1-AA school, but everybody knows they're 1-AA, so we'll get dissed for even playing them. There are a bunch of BCS schools who are apparently worse, but they'd look better on our schedule (and to season ticket holders). None of those teams must have been willing to come to Provo, even on a home and away basis.

Another victim of the BCS system. The big boys won't risk a loss by agreeing to a home-and-home with a team like BYU.
Having said that, I think this is about the best Mssrs Holmoe and company could have put together. One of the best 1-AA teams out there-probably a tougher test than a D-1 cellar dweller.

With the limitations of 1) needing a home game 2) having a full schedule next year (meaning can't offer a return game until at least 2009) and 3) lateness of the opening this is actually a pretty good get. Sure we all wanted LSU to come in next year, but that was highly unlikely.

People wanted us to give up a home game to play at Rutgers or Indiana, and get no return game. That is just plain dumb. I think we should start scheduling 7 home games a year. Only play 1 OOC conference game a year on the road.

I feel like a complete tool for asking a question like this but could BYU bring a breach of contract suit against Nevada? Obviously they can't force Nevada to honor the contract but they could ask for compensation for revenue lost by having to schedule a I-AA team. Duke backed out of a game with Louisville and U of L filed a breach of contract suit against them:

"The suit claims U of L was unable to find a team of 'similar stature' to Duke and is now short an out of conference game for next season and 'was forced' to replace Duke with Indiana State, which is not a member of the Football Bowl Division, for 2009."

Anyways, just a thought. I know Northern Iowa is a really good I-AA team, but I still think playing them is going to hurt BYU's SOS and season ticket sales.
