Christian Stewart

Christian Stewart, who consistently ranked among MaxPrep's top five passers in the nation during his senior year at Timpanogos High School in Orem, announced Saturday he will play football at BYU, according to his coach, Brad Molen.

Stewart, a consensus first-team all-state player this past fall, will walk on with "preferred status," according to Molen. Stewart set several state passing records for the T-Wolves including touchdown passes per game (4). He finished his career with 466 passes in 897 attempts for 6,431 yards and 63 touchdowns. His senior year, he completed 238 of 418 passes for 3,518 yards and 44 touchdowns. Stewart finished in the Top 5 of MaxPrep's national quarterback rankings for 12 consecutive weeks in touchdown passes, attempts, completions and passing yards in 2007. He was the Region IV Offensive Player of the Year (Coaches) and the All-Utah Valley Most Valuable Player in 2007. At 6-foot-2, 185, Stewart was a three-year starter and holds all the school's passing marks.

"He had recruiting interest from Stanford, Hawaii, UNLV, Colorado State, Utah, Utah State, Southern Miss, Arkansas State and Idaho State, but many school were not interested in signing him because he plans on going on an LDS mission immediately," said Molen.

So why doesn't a kid like this merit a scholarship and the endless adoration of fans on boards like Cougarblue?

That's a good get for you guys. You'll have quite the stable of QBs.

I honestly hadn't heard much about him. I had read and seen a little about the Erkenbrack (sp?) kid from Timpview, but not this kid.

Sounds pretty solid though. I would be interested to know if the "insiders" of the BYU world could shed any more light on him?
