I can't stomach that. This is a kid BYU needs to land. He is in our backyard, he is LDS, and he's a great football player. I'll be pretty disappointed if we don't land him.

Charlie Weis says. "Just to get it out of the way, if you want to never win a bowl game, come play for us...that's cool." "In fact, if you never want to have a winning record.....and play for a new coach in a year or so."

My inside sources say BYU is not heavily recruiting him. BYU better get their butts in gear and show a little bit more interest or we are going to lose him to a big time program.

I've seen Xavier play quite a few times and he is the most talented high school O-lineman I've ever seen. I think he was a TE his freshman year and then moved to OT. The kid is really fast, really strong, and very athletic. I hope we get him, he's the real deal.

Why do you think that? Does he seem not so interested in playing for BYU?

I just saw this article about Timpview High standout Xavier Su'a-Filo and his offer from Notre Dame. Here's the link: http://notredame.scout.com/2/736904.html

Interesting quote about what Charlie Weiss said to him:

He asked me if I was Mormon, and he asked me if a mission was something I was planning on doing, said Su'a-Filo. He said, just so you know, lets get this out of the way so it doesn't come up in the future, if you want to go on a mission, thats cool. I thought that was pretty neat.

The thing that is impressive about that is the fact that Notre Dame doesn't use red shirts, so someone starting in the program and not being finished four years later would be quite an anomoly.

In a total selfish mode, I just don't want him at USC more than anyone else. We end up with several blue chip LDS athletes at USC and it will just make it harder and harder to recruit against them.

When you're dealing with inmature, by a more adult standard, 17-19 year olds, it's hard to recruit against glamour and glitz, but someone really needs to be convinced that they want to be at BYU. I see very few that come that don't thoroughly enjoy it. It just seems though that we get a lower amount of the blue-chip LDS recruits than we want and the two biggest reasons given seems to be exposure and wanting to play closer to home. I can handle the later reason much better than the first.
