Johnny B (a Utah stand-up comic) had a funny bit about strange high school mascots. He asked the audience to give him a mascot name and someone shouted "Dons!" (Spanish Fork High). Johnny B: "The fearsome, fighting Dons! Sheesh, last week we got killed by the Larrys!"
That joke would have only worked in Utah, because every where else, they know that a "Don" is not someone to mess around with:

Don't mess with us or we'll sting ya. Maybe its just me but wasps have to be one of the more obnoxious creatures ever created haha

haha oh and you have to love the Beaver high school beavers. The beaver beavers were my favorite school to play, and you couldn't help but laugh when you hear the cheerleaders cheer, "We can beat the beavers any old time."

Being Native American I'd have to say that the Yootards have the worst mascot. They are suppose to be the "Utes" right? So whats with that bird? Just a ploy to keep the "indians" from being offended?????
I have wondered the same thing. I have always been fascinated with Native American history and culture and thought it would be much cooler to have a head-dress wearing Indian chief walking the sideline than a ridiculous stuffed bird with a sissy name like "swoop". Whether or not you like Florida State, you have to admit that the Seminole Indian mascot that rides out on the horse and throws the sphere into the ground is pretty dang cool! It just goes to show that the air really is thin up on the hill.
The fighting Illini had a mascot that wore the head-dress thing. They were one of the big reasons the NCAA came down on schools about changing their mascots. I thought it was a pretty neat mascot.
