On a non-contact day with the grass! I guess this may be our 'Diluigi Award' winner for this year. I decided that in honor of JJ's paper injury last year, we should at least give him the respect of starting an award for non-contact injuries in his name.
Hopefully this injury is not serious like they think it is. It was my understanding that Hooks was going to be huge in run support. The guy is having is fair of challenges, that's for sure!
From RP's Blog on the SL Trib:
Hooks Suffers Knee Injury
Despite the best efforts to prevent it, the BYU football program suffered a significant injury today at practice.
Linebacker Terrance Hooks came down after intercepting a pass and grabbed at his left knee while crying out in pain.
As the team conducted its Thursday's Heroes ceremony after practice, coaches Paul Tidwell, Barry Lamb, Robert Anae and Jaime Hill gathered around Hooks while the trainers checked his leg.
Hooks was eventually carted off with an inflatable caste around the leg and taken for X-rays.
"Doesn't look good," BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "From the preliminary, it looks like probably a patella tendon. He is getting X-rays now. It's premature to say that is what it is, but it doesn't look positive at this point.
Mendenhall has talked all spring about trying to take it easy in hopes of not suffering any more attrition to the ranks.
"Non-contact injury on the grass on a non-contact day," he said. "It saddens me beyond what I could even tell you and frustration is even stronger than that. I just don't know what to say."
The team honored Dick Jardine as its Thursday's Hero, and former BYU coach LaVell Edwards came down to greet his former player.
- Max Hall finished 10 for 10 for 85 yards and one touchdown during team drills. Austin Collie finished with 32 receiving yards and a touchdown while Wayne Latu ran in a short score.
