I apologize in advance for citing theo ther cougar message board, but they did bring up an interesting quote and topic that I wanted to get some verification about here on this board. For some reason I just don't have that much faith in the truthfullness of the things reported on the other board.

At any rate, they have quoted Bronco as stating he would like to avoid scheduling Pac 10 teams because they require Pac 10 officials to officiate their home games. They further quote that Bronco stated he would like to schedule more Big 12 teams only for that reason.

It seems a little to definitive to say you will only schedule a certain conference because they do something you don't like. I think teams schedule whomever they can that will fit. Maybe others on here have more information about this.

I can't debunk or verify but I don't have a problem with that. PAC-10 refs have by far the worst reputation in the nation. I don't think they (the PAC 10) should be able make that stipulation. To me, it is an obvious conflict of interest because it is in the referee's best interest to see the PAC-10 be successful.

That's what they do now.

I heard that same thing and I hope it isn't true. I just think Pac-10 officials are terrible, but I don't think they are any more biased than any other conference officials. In the 21 nonconference Pac-10 home games the road team had more penalties in 10 of those games. The road team was penalized for more yardage in 13 of those games. To suspend playing the Pac-10 because of that reason is weak, and wouldn't help recruiting, or the perception of BYU.

The problem at least with penalties in nonconference road games isn't with the officials it's with BYU. Let's see if we notice a trend in Bronco's nonconference road games:

@Notre Dame '05: 9 penalties for 80 yards (ND 11-77)
@BC '06: 10-67 (BC 2-10)
@AZ '06: 10-76 (AZ 8-61)
@Tulsa '07: 14-138 (Tulsa 4-31)
@UCLA '07: 11-84 (UCLA 4-30)

To me, it's obvious that BYU's officiating problems aren't going to change by changing preferred conference partners.

The fact that Pac-10 refs cheat makes all the difference in the world Pokes. That's why Bronco is/might be making this call. I agree 100% with it. It is laughable how the refs take over games. Stats and number of fouls/penalties aside; just watch the games. Anyone who knows sports will see the blatant bias. It's almost like watching the '96 Cotton Bowl refs every time we play someone from that conference.
