I heard that same thing and I hope it isn't true. I just think Pac-10 officials are terrible, but I don't think they are any more biased than any other conference officials. In the 21 nonconference Pac-10 home games the road team had more penalties in 10 of those games. The road team was penalized for more yardage in 13 of those games. To suspend playing the Pac-10 because of that reason is weak, and wouldn't help recruiting, or the perception of BYU.
The problem at least with penalties in nonconference road games isn't with the officials it's with BYU. Let's see if we notice a trend in Bronco's nonconference road games:

To me, it's obvious that BYU's officiating problems aren't going to change by changing preferred conference partners.
