I really don't understand why people think that Johnson is still a threat running the ball. He is not only slowed by a knee injury but he is also just plain fat.

edit: 1000th post woot woot!

I'd have thought a 1,000 poster would be a Senior. What does it take get you to Senior (and me, at 300+ to move off Freshman).

Johnson was a good running QB but injuries have him scared to leave the pocket. Last year he only had 150 yards rushing with a 1.8 average and 2 TDs. In 2005 he had 478 with a 3.8 average and 8 TDs. I was sitting at the BYU/Utah game last year just waiting for him to take off but he was really timid. He's an average QB, he's not a leader and I'm thankful we have a QB that has confidence and isn't afraid to take a hit.

Unfortunately we/he learned that the hard way!

Johnson may be a better overall athlete, but he's not a better overall qb. Dual-threat QBs are so ridiculously overrated, it drives me nuts! Exciting? Yes. Champions? Not often. Case in point...look at some of the best dual-threat or "athletic, mobile" QBs in both college and the NFL and see how many championships they won. Florida's Chris Leak is one of a very short list that has actually won a championship at the college or pro level. Most often championship football teams are lead by pocket passers, guys deemed less athletic or less mobile. Guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Phil Simms, Jim Kelly, Troy Aikman. Steve Young is an exception here as he was able to win a championship as a dual-threat qb, although not in the same sense as Michael Vick.

So this is all just a very long way of saying just because BJ is mobile, athletic and skilled, it does not make him a better quarterback and by no means guarantees he'll win anything of substance. The Utes can run their mouths all they want. I still say they finish 7-5 or 8-4 like they usually do. Because they're great at being average!

Chris Leak doesn't really count because he wasn't really a dual threat QB. He is African American but he was really a pocket passer. Anytime they wanted a serious threat to run they would bring in Tebow.

...that being the sense that Steve could actually pass the ball.

i disagree that max hall is the better qb. johnson put up huge numbers his sophomore year and led the nation in total offense. hes the best all around qb in the conference hands down. great runner, great decision maker, and most of all he can carry his team when needed. no disrespect to hall whatsoever, i think he is good. johnson is just more entertaining to watch and i think has more of an all around edge of being better IMHO. and johnson will not lose his last home game at utah to byu, i can guarantee everyone on this board that. i know the guy and hes told me that.

also bsu fan.......when was the last quality regular season win for you on the road in a bcs conference (excluding fiesta bowl, it s not a road game). i remember a 48-13 blowout loss to a horrible georgia team.

I don't even know where to begin...

I would start by changing every "is" to either "was" or "may have been". (Oops, I see suuwr beat me to it.)

BJ is a bad QB and a fat, slow athlete. THERE'S A REASON THAT CORBIN LOUKS RUNS THE OPTION, AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE HE'S SUPERMAN.

I think there were several QB's better than BJ in the MWC last year. Carney, Haney, Hall (of course), Porterie, and SDSU's QB were all better IMO. I think he's on par with TCU's and UNLV's QB's and slightly better than Wyoming's QB's.
