I don't know Howie either, but his feelings are like mine. The system is broken. I would add, however, as one who is still competing in his old age, that the
players deserve a playoff system, though it would be fun the for fans, too.
Championships should be won on the field, pitch, diamond, court, mat, stadium, arena, or whatever else is the place of competition. How real is it after the computers and the experts have selected the competitors?
Basketball's March madness provides an example. Every year, there are a few teams that "don't belong" who go much further than the experts said they should. David's dispatch Goliaths, much to the delight of their fans and lovers of underdogs everywhere.
Do we see any hope of something similar for football? No, we do not, and therein, because of the money, lies the real madness.
