"Mr. College Football" has BYU at 13 . . . . 2 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1
13. BYU (11-2, 10 offense, 3 defense): The Cougars will likley be this year’s Coalition conference entry into the BCS. Junior quarterback Max Hall (3,848 yards passing in 2007) threw for over 300 yards five times last season. Yes, there is work to do on defense but the schedule, which includes weak Pac-10 teams UCLA and Washington, is set up for a run at the BCS.

GO Cougs!

Is that "Coalition conference" term something new or just something I've never seen. I like that much better than "mid-major"...

I believe it's being used in the sense of the five non-BCS conferences forming some sort of coalition to put one of their own in a BCS bowl. Essentially, he's lumping all the "mid-major" teams into one big "Coalition" conference. I'm not sure I like it any more than mid-major, except for the slight difference in connotation.

I prefer something more accurate like "non-cartel" conferences.

I think one of the more interesting parts of the article was this bit:

Ahh... preseason. The times when every team is equal and BYU is cracking the top... wait. WHAT?! The BYU Cougars are in Tony Barnharts top ((gulp)) fifteen?? BYU making a BCS run??
