with Bronco going after every D-1 quality athlete to ever serve a mission for the church. Other schools try to cherry pick our guys in the feild all the time...we end up having to recruit alot of our players twice. Why wouldn't we use the one recruiting advantage we might have against the likes of USC and Oregon? If Kaveinga, Havili, Stevens, etc. were to ever end up on missions, I think Bronco would be nuts not to pitch the spiritual environment at BYU when these kids were most receptive.

I don't think it's dirty, I don't think it's beneath BYU, and I don't think it would be much of a distraction for the recruits (they hear from other schools the moment their commitment expires anyway). I see nothing wrong with Bronco opening a dialogue with a player's parents to let them know that the coaching staff and fans were still thinking about their sons...that their young men would still be more than welcome in Provo.

I don't know...I just don't see the Nelson or Teo "controversies" to be anything resembling a big deal.

it's easier to concentrate on because of the time of the year, if he commited during this coming season i bet it wouldn't even make more news than a single print.

It's Bronco's choice- His preference, if you will.

He has said that he simply won't do that and that means he won't do it.

Don't forget one thing. I don't think Bronco will give guys like Havili, Kavienga, and Stevens another chance post-mission should they serve. He already recruited them, I doubt he'll do it again.

The reason why we hear about these other guys like Bradley, Sorensen, Nelson and Malosi Te'o is becuase we didn't recruit them or at least didn't offer them before their missions. They didn't turn us down already like the others.

Bronco is a proud man and he believes the opportunity to play for BYU should sell itself to every LDS kid. If someone passes up on that opportunity for a chance to play on a "bigger" stage he won't give them a second chance. He could find ten other guys who are nearly as talented and twice as dedicated. No one of these guys will make or break the team.

I thought it was interesting to see Sione Fua come to visit BYU's practice and talk with the coaches before going into the MTC. This is total conjecture, but based on the outcome, if he was indeed looking into the possibility of transfering (why else would he have come to a BYU practice and want to meet with the coaches?) I wouldn't doubt that Bronco told him, "Have a good mission, and enjoy the rest of your career at Stanford".

I have no problem with the way Fua went about his recruitment, unlike some of the other guys who strung BYU along to the last minute when they clearly had no intention of signing with BYU. He was very up front about everything and his desire to get the best education possible first and foremost. He decided on Stanford for just that reason. But Bronco recruited him once and he made another choice, honorable as it may have been. I have to wonder if the fact that he's back at Stanford now might be an indicator that it played out something like that.

Again, I don't think it is our place to interpret what Bronco said. Each case is different and you may see a player or 2 come back to BYU. Bronco would be an idiot, and go against everything our religion stands for, to not allow for some repentance. I don't see as much Pride in Bronco as others do. Isn't pride the greatest sin of all.

Well, since you asked, I think pride is considered the great stumbling block, but blasophme(sp) against the Holy Ghost is the greatest sin.

To the point though, I agree with you that Bronco would let pride get in the way of the programs success. I think this is evidenced by the fact that he changed to the 3-4. If one of those players that ended up at USC went on a mission and had a change of heart, I'm sure Bronco would be interested as he understands the growth and maturing that occurs on missions.
