No Respect-Of Course 2 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2

BYU, BYU, BYU. It's all about BYU and it's "Quest For Perfection," but shhhhhh, here's the little secret that'll quickly get out: Utah might be every bit as good.

While the Cougars are being hailed as possible BCS busters, if that term even really applies anymore, Utah actually got into the big show in 2004, has won five straight bowl games, and with wins over teams like Louisville, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, Cal, Texas A&M, Pitt, North Carolina and Georgia Tech, is a fantastic 10-4 against BCS-league teams over the last five seasons. So why doesn't the team get any respect?

Because they lose to UNLV, by shutout. Vacillation does describe it a bit. Because their fans are so vituperative. Because they are the enemy. The reds. Better dead than red.

And your answer?

Hey, forward this to your yewt buddy:

Let's start from the beginning of the 80s, a small team nobody new existed started Dominating! A National Championship ensued, many many (captain lasaard voice) conference championships, bowl champs, state champs etc...ensued. And BECAUSE of BYU, the BcS was formed to keep BYU BYU BYU out! In fact in 1996 when we were up for a bid against the sheepish bowl alliance...we were ranked 5...exactly what the yewts were in 2004.

Hmm...thanks to BYU's many many petitions from LaVell, Chad Lewis, and others rules were eventually changed. Did yewt fans, supporters, alumni contribute to changing the rules? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! So they can stand behind Meyer all they want, that fluke of a year they owe to BYUs hard dirty work is just an urban legend anyways. And guess what yewts, you still lose to awful teams, and beat awful teams. Good Luck, Sincerely, Cougartown, home of the back-to-back MWC CHAMPIONS UNDEFEATED, STATE CHAMPS, VEGAS BOWL CHAMPS...and future BcS CHAMPS

Do you have a link for that Fiutak quote? I want to check out the article.

I don't think "no respect-of course" is a proper characterization. Too much respect for the U, not enough for BYU, ok. But no respect? Fiutak's last statement was,

"Key game: Nov. 22 vs. BYU. If the game is half as good as the last two, it'll be one of the must-see showdowns of the year. The Utes are two late stops away from being on a six game winning streak over their hated arch-rival. If the Cougars are as good as expected, this might be for a BCS spot and not just the Mountain West title."

That statement does not amount to no respect. He's expecting a good game, acknowledging expectations for the Cougars are high, and that the game might be for a BCS spot.

Yeah but he didn't crown us MWC champs and BCS-bound before the season starts like we all expected...
