I was really thinking and talking with some friends lately and we talked about the history of BYU and Utah. Last year we thought oh wow BYU is awesome and should blow out Utah but it was a nail biter. No matter which team or how much talent that game is always close. What if we played every game with as much hype as that one? Would our record improve? Just a thought so please input. GO COUGS

You mean that you'd like to see us play down to the competition every game like we have done against yewtah the past two years? Sorry. No thanks.

I have to agree with Conosticator on this one. Watching both of the past two games against Utah, you could tell by the tenor of the game and the crispness of the players that BYU had a definite advantage.
In fact, in '06 I was shocked that Utah was even in the game...we were up 14-0 in the first quarter, then just started to relax. I hope that this year we go 100% the whole game and win by 10+ points. There is no reason that BYU doesn't demolish Utah this year. In fact, if we have 1 loss, we may still have a shot at going to a BSC bowl provided we thrash the rest of the competition and Utah has a similarly successful year.

amen to that. in 06 we did sit back, and in 07 the yewts were sitting on a keg of tnt the whole game, we just didn't light it for some reason. (note the Collie 87 yard touchdown called back against the yewts, the yewt db flopped as soon as collie touched him, there wouldn't have been a penalty had the little girl not flopped like a euro nba player). BYU should win by 14+ points this coming season. I don't care how much respect everyone gives the yewts...write it down 14+

Beating Utah by 14 may be a stretch, I loathe the Ute's as much as anyone on this board but truth be told, it's still a rivalry game and emotions run high on both sides. The game has only seen one blow out in the last 10 years, 52-21 and then they went on to a BCS bowl against Pitt. So I wouldn't mind seeing another blow out, this time BYU winning by 30, but I'm not counting my chickens. Although if BYU expects to go BCS busting it seems like we ought to beat them pretty handily.

I enjoy taking the high road on this discussion. Call it snobbery, call it big-brother syndrome, whatever, it's my favorite argument because of the reaction it gets from other fans.

"As long as BYU plays their own game and prepares for ever team like they did the last, they will always be susceptible to the teams that are able to get up for their biggest game of the year. Though it has not proven to be a fatal weakness in recent years, we should never be surprised that games are close where the other team feels like they are playing in their bowl game."
