Seems like a pretty good player. I've heard mixed opinions about his ability. I wonder if he is being recruited as an athlete (for TE, DE, OL, or DL). Sounds like a BYU guy. However, I am starting to wonder if either BYU is not as confident in snagging more or the higher "starred" recuits (which we know is not necessarily an accurate system)or they have more scholarships available with Tafuna, Hutchinson, & some going straight on missions.
Peck is a multisport athlete, big and capable of contributing to a major D 1 team. He's on the Scout Northwest top 100 and has the size and speed to contribute on special teams and at tight end.
What we've found over the last few years is that Bronco is not set in stone about a players position, and that bodes well for hard working big athletic guys.
*I think we've seen So'oto and Coats before him, that big athletic guys will find a way to contribute. This is one reason I think Bronco is passing on the Cody Raymunds of the world. Raymund is a receiver and never will be anything but a receiver; if a guy like him falls in the wr depth chart, he stays there, incapable of helping the team . But when you recruit 6'3" - 6'5" athletes, or the 5'11" 220 lb running backs, they can end up playing other positions (safety - like Ashworth-, linebacker - like Sooto-, tight end -like Coats)
The days of recruiting the Jason Kukahikos, Toby Christensens, the Chris Hales and even the Rod Wilkersons of the world seem to be over*
We don't have to recruit just 5 star guys to build a winning team, we have to have hard working BYU loving guys with enough athletic ability to field a position in major d1 football. (our latest commit Anthony Heimuli seems to be one of those guys... he literally built himself into a star amd Bronco doesn't pay attention to scouting services....)
I'll tell you another reason why I expect that Peck must be a stud....(forgive me for what might seem tangential thought here)

Dalton Groskreutz - apparently wanted to attend BYU to play football, is 6'6" and was 1st team all state in basketball too.
He's what you would consider a multisport athlete wth height length and athleticism but wasn't offered a scholarship like Peck. That sas to me that Peck is not just a project, but a footbal player. (Obviously Dalton would be a big tall athletic project in football, and that wasn't enough to merit a football scholarship). In many ways Peck and Groskreutz have a lot in common, the different is that Peck is a football player right now. I guess what I'm saying is that BYU isn't taking fliers on every 6'5"+ athlete in the state of Utah; they know who will make great football players.
I live in Kansas City and attended UMKC for medical school and know Hartsocks older brother (who might be in Utah now with Noah)..and have seen the 6'7" Geoff Payne from SUU - a guy that easily could have been a star tight end in big time D1 football but chose basketball and was in the top 10 in scoring in the NCAA this yr as a jr. I see Groskreutz as that kind of guy. Probably a major D1 hoops tweener, but with the physical size and ability to make a D1 football team....
BYU football did not take a flyer on Dalton (because potential isn't enough to make Broncos team) but they offered Peck relatively early (before seeing him his senior year when many players really grow up in high school football). They didn't offer Ercanbrack, Frandsen or Raymund (all worthy of a chance at a scholarship) and they haven't offered top Utah receivers Van Leuwen or Edmunds.... This tells me that Peck is special... who cares how many stars he has, Bronco offered him a scholarship.
When you consider who BYU hasn't offered scholarships, it gives you pause to second guess the guys that they do offer.
Someone mentioned that Peck didnt' look as good as Richard Wilson in camp this summer....well who would? He's arguably the 1st or 2nd best TE prospect in the country.
