It is a HUGE loss for BYU. Taysom is a family friend. I have seen him play. He is highest rated QB in the region, a 4 star prospect and a top 25 in the country according to Scout.com. He seriously plays like a man among boys, and is quite the dual threat.
He is no primadona thats for sure. Yes, he was disappointed that BYU didn't pursue him earlier but man enough to seriously consider them when they did. BYU was a very close second. He anguished about the decision. Doman and Mendenhall really impressed him. In the end, it was the lure of the Stanford education primarily that swayed him.
At the Stanford QB Academy, Taysom competed with all the Stanford QB recruits including highly touted Josh Nunes and a couple of other top 25 nationally rated prospects. At the end of camp, Stanford told Taysom he was their man. He shined above the rest. Nunes called Harbaugh after camp to see where he stood, Harbaugh told him that Taysom was their first choice and that it depended on what Taysom did. The next day Nunes commited to Tennesee.
I hope we get Heaps next year, even though I think that Taysom is a better prospect and would have played in front of him. I am sad for BYU, but happy for Taysom. I wish him well.
