I've been fortunate enough to attend a number of amazing football and basketball games at BYU, but hands down the most exciting BYU sporting event I've ever attended was the BYU-Stanford volleyball match in 1997. Stanford was ranked #1 at the time. To say that the match was a battle is an understatement. It was the only volleyball match I've ever seen where there was actually a scuffle between the players. The field house was packed. The fans were more intense than I've ever seen at LES or the Marriott Center, and when BYU rallied to win the last set I've never seen fans storm a field/court faster.
I love the volleyball games, but I'd have to put at least a dozen FB games ahead of any vb games-and it's not even close. For example, Miami '90 trumps just about anything, IMHO.
I don't disagree. I'm sure there have been some football games that were better, but I'm just comparing the games that I've actually attended. I was at BYU from 96-97, 99-2002 and went to almost all of the home football games during that time. (I think the only one I missed was Utah (!) in 2001 because of family obligations.) The only game--which we won--that
really stands out for me during that time was Texas A&M in 96, although Washington and Cal in 99 were also good. There were also some fun blow out wins like Tulane in 2001. But I don't think I would put any of those games over the 97 BYU-Stanford volleyball match in terms of intensity--although storming the field after Texas A&M was great. Anyways, I see your point. I know there have been some amazing football games. I'm just speaking of games I've been able to attend.
