The article mentioned James Anderson was a McD's All-American nominee. Who is this kid and why aren't we discussing his game on here? I for one do not remember the words "McDonald's All-American" and "BYU" every being in the same sentence together without there being a a "never" or "impossible" inserted somewhere as well. Then again, I don't follow b-ball off-season developments much. What say ye?
He was just a nominee... there are about 1200 nominees every year. BYU has had at least one winner - Garner Meads in 2000.
Anderson is a tweener in the sense that he could develop into an impact player based on his high school reviews, or he might not. His biggest knock, besides being raw after returning from a mission last year, is that he is skinny, as in not quite Shawn Bradley skinny. Hopefully, a season of conditioning will at least get him in good shape if not add more weight. I've heard that early last year after returning from his mission, he added around 15 lbs to get up to around 220 lbs. The good news is that in high school, he demonstrated good footwork, good court awareness and passing ability, the ability to go left or right to the basket, and good range - I think he was around 30%+ from 3-pt range. He's touted as athletic and has good moves inside.
With Trent Plaisted possibly leaving and Chris Collinsworth going on his mission, Anderson will definitely be looked at to see if he can fill a role.
