Seriously though, why not shoot it with a tranquilizer and haul it off. They shoot animals on National Geographic all the time with tranquilizers, just go get one of them. No reason to kill the animal.

Good question. Mayor Daley was asked that at a press conference, and he essentially said they had to act immediately (and not wait for someone with a tranquilizer to show up) in case someone got hurt and sued the city.
