2008 Arizona State "Stadium Shootout" Sat Dec 20th 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: -8

BYU plays Arizona State, Louisville plays Minnesota, both at University of Phoenix Stadium. All four teams won at least 20 games last season. Tickets go on sale Sept. 27th.

It's not a 4-team tournament though, it's just a double-header. To make money off of ticket-sales I guess.

What day are the MWC Bowl games set for? I believe the Las Vegas Bowl is that week as well...

Good. It won't conflict because we will be playing in a BCS game.

We were good enough to play in a BCS Bowl last year as well, when our defense was better. Then we lost two games, one to a 6-7 team and another to the 3rd-place team from C-USA. I like the optimism though.

Gregg Wrubell just mentioned this on his blog:
With the news that the BYU Basketball team will play Arizona State on December 20th in the football stadium at Glendale (tipoff time TBA), that day is setting up as a potentially busy one for Cougar sports fans. December 20th is also the day of the Las Vegas Bowl. Suffice it to say the football team is intent on avoiding any conflict that day. BYU plans to play in a BCS bowl, but even should that option not pan out, I'm guessing the Cougars might prefer something other than a fourth straight late December trip to Vegas.

Keep in mind the Las Vegas Bowl will actually be played prior to the Poinsettia Bowl this season (the Poinsettia Bowl is set for December 23rd), so barring a BCS bowl invite, I could envision BYU angling for a spot in San Diego. The bowl's deal with Navy is no longer in effect, meaning the bowl will get the MWC's 2nd pick vs. a team from the Pac 10--in essence, a comparable matchup to anything the Las Vegas Bowl could put together.

*******

For the record, the Las Vegas Bowl is scheduled for a 6:00pm MT kickoff on December 20th, while the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale is booked from 10:00am-6:00pm for the "Stadium Shootout" doubleheader, with BYU slated to play the ASU Sun Devils in the second game of the day (Louisville takes on Minnesota in the opener). So, should BYU somehow end up in the Las Vegas Bowl, there shouldn't be a direct head-to-head on-air conflict, based on current game time projections.

Yes, I know--that's a lot of advance planning for games that are 8 months away, and only one of which is a done deal.

Again, they'll have a chance to play some big dogs. They just need to win. I believe they also host UCLA this year.

I hope we host Boise too, so we can help humble them a little.
