I think this is probably a good move on his part as I don't really think he will gain much by coming back another year. How many seniors do you see in the mock drafts so in the first round? In reality his best year to go would have been his freshman year. Rose won't use him any differently next year which will keep him from becoming the best player he can be. I don't think Trent has any illusions of being a lottery pick or even possibly a first rounder but the second round I think is very likely. Worst case he ends up in Europe making $150K tax free with no living expenses.

Good Luck Trent!!

k, if you are as close to Trent as you say, then the above statement about Trent not being able to meet his potential under Rose is probably something that you have heard him say. If that is the case, then I finally have a clear picture as to why he has gotten worse over his career at BYU instead of better. If Trent thinks that Rose is the root of his problems then he will never be a success in the NBA. Rose isn't the reason that Trent still hasn't developed a jump shot, Rose isn't the reason that Trent can't hit more then 50% percent of his free throws. As long as Trent thinks that his success is due to or lacking because of someone else, he will never have the success that he hopes for. I am a fan of BYU and rooted for Trent to become the player that we all hoped he would become during his time here but he will never have success in the NBA unless he develops a jump shot and learns to shoot free throws. There are guys that are just as tall as him but a whole lot quicker and more athletic then he is playing the position that he will have to play in the NBA. If you are as close to him as you say, let him read this post because I will be rooting for him to succeed in the NBA, and if he doesn't improve his game, he is going to be an embarrassment to BYU as a proffessional Basketball player.

No living expenses I understand. But tax-free?

I know most of us wanted him back but Trent has signed his agent and therefore will not be coming back next year. I know he has been invited to the camp in Orlando which is very important and he already has at least one team practice set up with several more in the works.

Part of the reason this happened is that NCAA rules not only exclude you from hiring an agent but from having one do anything for you as well. Its hard to get invites if you don't have the agent so most schools turn a blind eye to this but BYU does not so it was either get little attention or sign an agent.

I think this is probably a good move on his part as I don't really think he will gain much by coming back another year. How many seniors do you see in the mock drafts so in the first round? I just e-mailed Dick Harmon about this. I hope he doesn't mind me sharing what he said. He hasn't heard this yet and is looking into it.

Dick appears to think that these two statements are contradictory. If Trent needs an agent to get to the camp, that means his draft stock isn't that high and he will likely go undrafted because the NBA isn't stupid - they know who is out there and what teams are looking at.

So, if you are on the draft radar you will get an invite with or without an agent; if you aren't on the radar you may get in with an agent but you are unlikely to get drafted. If Trent hired an agent to get to the camp, he is likely looking at Europe right now.

No offense, lovelldog, but I think you might be getting incorrect information on this one.

I think he means he can still pay US taxes as a US citizen as opposed to paying the often higher percentage taxes in most European countries.

That is my assessment not his.
I also think that any BYU player that plays professionaly is actually a big accomplishment for BYU not an embarrassment.

Agree with you here, certainly I have nothing but respect for Jared Hanson, and if Trent does as well then he will have certainly made the right decision.
