Plaisted a Pro

ESPN.com is reporting Trent Plaisted has signed with agent Mark Bartelstein, thus officially bringing to an end Plaisted's college career. I have contacted BYU sources who indicate they have heard the same thing, but I have not heard from Trent himself.

Word is Trent told teammates weeks ago he was not returning to BYU, and that it was only a matter if time before he signed with an agent.

Trent has been working out in California and is hoping for an invitation to the NBA's pre-draft camp.

BYU would have a scholarhsip available upon Plaisted's departure, but as of right now, the coaching staff is leaving open the option of saving that scholarhsip, instead of committing it to a player for sake of expediency. In other words, having a grant-in-aid available for a high schooler or JC transfer next year might be more prudent than making a 2-year commitment to a "late" signee this year.

I liked Trent a lot, but at the same time i liked his backup Miles because he was more physical and played much better defense then Trent ever did. Miles may not have the offensive ability trent did, but Miles does have the NBA size Trent will never have

It'll be interesting to see BYU's center position unfold next year. Miles and Mcgregor are both physical players that are not really scorers. I expect both of them to get a lot of rebounds, but it will be interesting to see if someone can step up to be an inside scorer. At least we know Ferdette can drive.

I know one thing for sure, ol beaker up on the hill is going to hate playing BYU because he'll be up against two physical players all game long. He gets frustrated when he is pushed around.

Well, if true, I don't think Trent is really aiming for the NBA. Hopefully, he recognizes that if he is struggling to get an invite and needs to hire an agent to do so, he is unlikely to get drafted. The NBA knows the talent and will invite all qualified players.

Best wishes to him in Europe!

What I don't understand is how a website (espn.com) can report something when it's not on the website? I can't find a thing about this anywhere on espn.com. Anyone else had any luck? Do news outlets have some kind of special access to espn.com or what?

Greg Wrubell is surely an insider, but hopefully that'll be posted soon. Good luck in Europe indeed. Perhaps he'll get to play alongside Travis Hansen
