Plaisted struggled to make his impact felt on the court consistently, just floating up and down aimlessly at times and not using his athleticism to finish particularly strong around the basket. You can't ignore his physical tools, but at the same time, you'd like to see him make more use of it on the glass or defensively. He's in this draft for good, so he really would serve himself well to bring the intensity level up a notch and having a strong showing in the last day of the camp would help.

i'm not too surprised, really, hopefully he can develop that defensive presence before the draft...that's probably too late

That pretty much sums up Trent right there. He would have easily been a first rounder had he just kept his intensity up throughout his college career.

I often got frustrated with Trent against mediocre competition. In my opinion, Trent will get worked by NBA defenders. I still support his decision to enter the draft because it is none of my business. I also hope he gets paid and improves his game in the D-League or Europe.

what does it matter? I just hope he represents what BYU basketball is becoming.

Here's the latest from Greg Wrubell"

They ran the first full day of games at the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando on Wednesday. I'm having a tough time locating boxscores, but Trent Plaisted's Team Three was a 94-81 loser to Team Four. Here's what they said about Plaisted's showing on draftexpress.com:

"Trent Plaisted had some flashes with his ridiculous athleticism, but was a bit too quiet in stretches, not making his presence felt enough."

However, ESPN.com's Chad Ford wrote:

"The camp is usually a graveyard for big men. The guards rarely pass them the ball, forcing them to run the floor and pray that they might get a pass. BYU's Trent Plaisted was a major victim of that syndrome Wednesday. He often was the first guy down the floor on offense. He could have had five or six wide-open dunks, but instead, guards Stanley Burrell and DeMarcus Nelson would just jack up shots instead of passing to the wide-open man."

I think the bolded quote conveys the same sentiments I had at times about Trent last season. And he sure didn't have any guards hogging the ball here.

Greg also said J.R. Giddens (also on Trent's team) has impressed some people with his defense and explosiveness.

It wasn't that he had guards hogging the ball here it was that they were usually scared to pass the ball to him. In fact the only player who could consistently pass the ball into Trent in the post was Lee. How many times did you see Trent get fronted and nobody would just lob it over his head for the easy dunk. The problem was guards that hogged the ball the problem was guard who couldn't pass the ball. In the end you get the same result.

I agree with you on this. Lee was the only one that could get the ball into Trent and it was always the same post up, curve pass move - very predictable. There definately should have been more lob passes into Trent, especially against BSU, UNLV and the other teams with 6'8" centers.

I think it has to do with guard ability as well as Trent's ability to seal his man off, though. Miles does a better job of sealing his man off. Passes to Miles from the guards rarely got picked off. Passes to Trent from the guards got intercepted all the time.
