I don't think the Jazz will ever get there until they get someone in the middle who will plug things up. Not your best play to have your center out there shooting 3's.
Unless someone can point out to us Jazz fans, where are the "big centers" that plug up the middle that play for the Lakers and Celtics...?:P
Or the Pistons, or the Mavericks, or the Hornets, or the Spurs, or the Caveliers, or any other team who legitimately had a shot at the title this year.
The funniest part of mountaincougar's assessment is that, to follow his implicit logic, Memo cannot clog up the middle because he is shooting 3's. Do we want our center to clog up the middle
on offense? Because that is all that most centers do in the NBA anymore.
As far as Memo's defensive contributions, the paucity of post defense is more a function of Boozer's lack of defense than Memo's. Boozer is likely the worst defender on the court--hence the perpetual foul trouble in the playoffs when the tempo slows to favor half-court sets and post play.
In the new NBA that favors quickness, I would take Memo over a clog-the-middle center any day, because the clog-the-middle centers are liabilities with the no-contact zone under the basket.
