In what way did Trent "owe" us anything? And I think that he went ahead into the draft for reasons other than "the crap people were feeding him about how good he was". That's a baseless assumption, and it's not fair to him. We assume that because someone leaves before their eligibility is up that it's because of ego, or some agent telling him to, or because he has a "posse" that's waiting to cash in on his fame, blah, blah, blah.

First off, he has already graduated. HAS his degree. So that's done. He's not leaving school early. He's embarqing on his career choice, with his degree in hand. Don't blame him one bit. I appreciate the time he spent at BYU, helping to make BYU better, and I actually think that we will be a really good team without him, too. He can now go forward and PROGRESS, which is why we're all on this earth in the first place. He can challenge himself, learn from the best coaches and players in the game, and make good money while doing it. If he sits the bench for ten years, then great. He's still going to be making 10 times what most of us make a year, and all he'll have to do is play a sport he loves at practice, and then wave a towel every night cheering his team on. Good for him. Wish I could do that. I wish him well.

Trent owes BYU nothing and I wish him well. I am a huge Jazz fan and hope he is not on the Jazz. Perform a hustle tranplant with Matt Harpring or Adam Keefe and then we'll talk about wanting Trent on the Jazz.

First off he still has a class that he needs to finish via correspondence. So he doesn't have a degree. And then I really do think that people were feeding him stuff. I don't necessarily blame him but those around him that told him he was good enough for the NBA this year. I don't know what player would choose to join the draft when they realistically have no chance of being a lottery pick. Those are historically the only players that make rosters and stay in the league. If its your dream to play in the NBA, which Trent has said on many occasions, then why would you leave before you are prepared to compete at a higher level of competition. I really think that agents-to-be or others convinced him he was ready when clearly he isn't. Nor will he be in a year or two.

And I think that he does "owe" it to us. I think every college athlete owes it to the school and the fans to play all for years. I mean Trent got free room and board for four years and only played three. He got free meals at Subway, Taco Bell and everywhere else on campus with his free meal card. I think that if you get a free ride for four years you should have to play all four years. College athletes owe it to us to play for us. That's what we're paying for.

And I certainly wish him the best. I hope he makes a roster and kills it in the league but realistically, he doesn't have a chance this year. But I wish him all the success possibly, because he is a good guy and a BYU man.

One correspondence course is close enough.

And then I really do think that people were feeding him stuff. I don't necessarily blame him but those around him that told him he was good enough for the NBA this year. There is a huge difference between being ready to play in the NBA and being a lottery pick. He IS physically ready. He may not have all the tools, but he can't get them by staying another year.

The lottery is only the first thirteen picks. Way more guys are making teams in the NBA every year than those first thirteen. The first round, I believe, have guaranteed contracts, so that's always nice to have. The second round guys are not guaranteed, but have a good shot. Most guys who get drafted at least make the team. And he will probably get drafted, and he'll probably make a team. I just don't think he'll get any playing time for a while (meaning a couple of years). But that's OK. He's a project. It's called "upside", which is a huge buzzword for the NBA. They're always drafting big guys with huge "upside".

And I think that he does "owe" it to us. I think every college athlete owes it to the school and the fans to play all for years. I mean Trent got free room and board for four years and only played three. He got free meals at Subway, Taco Bell and everywhere else on campus with his free meal card. Nope. You're paying to be entertained, and entertained you shall be by other players. He wasn't given four years up front. He has a scholarship that takes care of school, room and board while he's at BYU. Now that he's gone, he doesn't have that anymore. It's not like he's running off with our money or anything. He gave us a great three years. He shouldn't be held back because we want to be entertained. Now, don't get me wrong. I would love for him to stay, as I think that all college athletes should play at least three years, and four would never hurt. But that doesn't mean that I begrudge him anything for leaving.

And I certainly wish him the best. I hope he makes a roster and kills it in the league but realistically, he doesn't have a chance this year. But I wish him all the success possibly, because he is a good guy and a BYU man.

This, I agree with.

He IS physically ready.

From Franchuck's article:
"I'll gladly admit that I haven't been in this Utah altitude for a while, so I was tired," Plaisted said. "It was OK...I probably tired out a little too quickly with the altitude and stuff. That's not very characteristic of me. But all in all I thought it was a good day."

I hope he can get that fixed before the season starts. But no seriously, he is very athletic and Dave Rose did say that Plaisted had the most athletic/amazing dunk he had seen at any level two years ago at CSU, of which there is only grainy footage available.

I guess my biggest beef with Trent leaving is this: I hate having "analysts" say how poorly a BYU man is playing or how underdeveloped his game is. I hate how that reflects on my alma mater. I feel like they are bashing the school and its program and coaches almost as much as they are the guy who stills needs years of improvement.

With that said, thanks for trading barbs with me, I understand where you're coming from. I'm just a bad loser and frustrated that he is leaving because I fear that it will reflect poorly on Trent and BYU.

I understand. But, hey, Araujo has softened us all up where this is concerned. I mean, he can't possibly have less of an impact than him, can he?
