No. 1 BYU escapes UC Irvine with five-game thriller 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 11
This thread discusses the Content article: No. 1 BYU escapes UC Irvine with five-game thriller

It's hard to believe that a school whose mascot is an ANTEATER can be so good at a sport, even volleyball. Thankfully, BYU was better than the defending national champions this time around (and still undefeated this season). Not bad for a team who lost one of their top returning players to a sudden jump to the pros!

Wow!, I just read in this article http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,5143,695253757,00.html that they lost! Of course it will probably be changed by the time everyone actually reads this!

Heard First On Desert News! BYU Loses ?then? Wins 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 2
I guess I beat them to it. I followed your link, runbyu1, and found that the Deseret Morning News had replaced their incorrect story of the BYU men's volleyball loss with the correct report of their win. It was funny, though, because their link column still has the old title. I wonder how long it will take them to replace it - not that I care enough about the Deseret News to check back. I wish I could have read their original story.

For fun I will attempt to attach a screen shot -

Nice work gingi. It was funny because it was a decently long story and actually gave some play by play and player stats. It was VERY believable. Although the first line was barely changed---before it said "Top-ranked BYU JUST COULDN'T avoid the upset bug that bit several of the nations..." then it listed the teams that lost. It gave a bit of play by play of the end of the game...funny stuff!

I followed the game on matchtracker online. It was the weirdest thing....

Everything was fine until 14-14 in game 5. Then I couldn't tell the order of the points that were being scored. I could tell it was a great match because they would go up one and then we'd go up and back and forth. Then at 22 all the score changed and made it 22-24 for UCI. Well, I thought we'd lost it, then all of a sudden it changed to 22-23 UCI. Then to 23-25 UCI. Then 24-26 UCI. Then 24-28 UCI. Well, obviously I didn't know what was happening. Finally it said that we got the last two points and the match ended 26-28 for UCI, but that Ivan Perez had gotten the final kill.

I went to bed totally confused as to who had won because they updated the teams' records to 10-0 BYU and 8-7 UCI. Well, if we had gotten the last point by Perez and were now 10-0 then we won....but that's not what the score said!

I woke up this morning and was happy to see that BYU had won 28-26. At least the score was right, huh!?

Let's hope it's not that close for tonight's match and it's again a BYU win.

I think. I haven't seen any of the good news from Utah journals but then those consistent almanacs of timely and evenhanded tidings are probably still shaking from Trent Plaisted's mighty dunks. Back to volleyball. The UC-Irvine's Game Tracker reported BYU's 3-1 victory, with UC-I winning the first match and BYU closing the door with three consecutive victories.

The report is available through UC-I's site (http://ucirvinesports.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/ucir-m-volley-body.html) and has some credence because it appears to be the source, almost word for word including the title, of some of the Utah reports concerning BYU men's volleyball's Friday victory.
