I hope those young guys still have some shreads of confidence remaining because 0-3 at the Copa America is not good. Looking at the way the youngsters hung in there, it's likely the Gold Cup squad would have beat either Paraguay or Columbia or both, though it's easy to say now. Mexico's done well, but El Tri's style lends well to playing the South American game.

Anyway, CONMEBOL was about as happy to see the US's B team as the rest of us soccer fans were. Hopefully the US will put together a decent side when they go to play Sweden, Switzerland, and Catalonia.

So my question is this: will the US ever develop a lethal striker? He wasn't lethal in the sense of van Nistelrooy or Henry, but I never realized how much McBride meant to the team until he was gone. Looking at who the US has, Dempsey and Donovan are best in the midfield, and Ching, Twellman, and Johnson haven't been overwhelmingly impressive. Ching played a good game against Mexico, and Twellman was at least in the right places in his appearances (though he lacked the finishing touch). But how much longer is Bradley going to let Johnson look lost out on the pitch?

And what ever happened to Josh Wolff? He was on the 02 and 06 WC teams, but since his transfer to 1860 Munich, he hasn't done much with the MNT. He's at least as good of an option up top as Ching, Twellman, or Johnson.

I guess Adu looked good in the U-20 WC, but the way he's been playing in MLS makes you wonder if he's really the answer. He probably just needs a change of scenery to force him to live up to his potential.<br><br>Post edited by: Mingjai, at: 2007/07/05 23:05
