For those of you who missed it, the USA beat a tough Swiss team on a late goal by coach's son Michael Bradley. The goal was scored in a goal mouth scramble started by beautiful cross by sub Danny Szetela. The win breaks the USA's 5 game skid (Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, Sweden, and Brazil) and gives the boys their first win on European soil since last year's 1-0 win over 06 WC qualifier Poland.
I caught the last half-hour or so and have these thoughts:
1. The USA really needs to find a new target man to play up top. I prefer Dempsey to Donovan at forward, but Dempsey works better as an in-the-hole, face-the-net second forward. Brian Ching is probably the best candidate, but he's seemed overwhelmed sometimes at the international level--is there any way to get Brian McBride to reconsider his USMNT retirement after he recovers?
2. The young guys looked good. Adu had a good effort on his near miss, Szetela had the nice cross leading to the goal, and Bradley had the goal, and Feilhaber and Edu were solid all night. All these guys are 22 or less.
