Hey my mom used the old wooden spoon as well. I remember one time she used it on me and it snapped over my rear end...I of course thought it was hilarious and assumed that she would to and so began to laugh. Oh boy, was that ever a mistake. She stormed out of the room and after listening to her rummaging through the kitchen drawers for a bit came back with a spatula.

My brother and I laughed after a lashing from my dad. He didn't go anywhere, he just turned the belt aroung and hit with the buckle.

I seriously thought that all of the sudden my brother had an account here on Cougarblue because that is an EXACT account of something that happened to us...including the breaking the wooden spoon and coming back with a spatula!!! One time after a broken wooden spoon the next nearest "tool 'o torture" was one of my sisters batons...needless to say that flimsy thing got broken too...just that one happened over my head...that one did smart a little!!! HA HA not too fun back then but funny as heck to reflect on now! I seriously thought my mom kept the wooden spoon industry booming for a while there.

My dad would use a wire hanger. When he first sent one on my sisters to get it I just laughed at him. All it took was one flick of his wrist and I was suddenly submissive. After that if one of us was acting up then he would just say to the other kids "go get me a hanger" and that would pretty much end whatever dispute was going on.
