Shouldn't it be "If loving Blue is wrong, I don't wanna be right?"

Post edited by: jimmyz2, at: 2007/05/16 08:11

Wow, it's been a while since I've been to the site, I wasn't sure I was at the right website, I think I liked the old version better, oh well, I suppose I'll have to get used to it.

Okay, so I'm gone for a couple of weeks and I come back to this site, and I see some major changes.

Well, I hate them. What the f**k happened here? I'm done.

Requests for new CougarBlue? 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 3
I'm seeing some negative feedback from people on the updated CougarBlue site and I'm curious what needs to be done to make it better?

It has just about all of the features as before, plus plenty of new options like blogging on the community news area, connections like many sites have now, more options in various area of the site.

What is bothering everyone the most and what can be done to fix it?

I know I haven't been around nearly as long as some of the guys that don't like it, so I am probably not the best qualified to answer but here it goes. At first it was real weird and I couldn't figure anything out. The biggest complaint at first is that everything seemed upside down. It was set as default within the threads to post the last post at the top which was just wrong. I know pretty much everyone complained about that at first and it was a mess, but once we all edited our user settings back to the "right way" it was better. Suggestion: Change the default setting back so that within the threads it starts with the first post and ends with the latest so you can read through it easily. For those that like to do it the crazy, impossible to follow, backwards way leave the option for them to do it that way. That is probably throwing a lot of people off at first.

I admit, at first it was a little strange to get used to but then it was cool to learn all of the new features and cool stuff you can do. The emotions are wimpy and I feel bad that there are no little devil faces for catholicmat to use. It just isn't the same. New, manly emotions are necessary and I know that it takes time to hammer out all of the little stuff when changing sites but they would be nice sometime. I for one like the avitars. They give everyone a little more personality on the board. You can learn a lot about someone by what picture they chose to represent them. I think we have all learned more about each other.

I know that some people don't like it because it is too fancy and they are afraid to get caught looking at something so cool at work. I am lucky because nobody cares that I come here. Karma is nice because it is easy to know who to trust, see cruiser, mcgregor, etc. and so everyone can see who is just here to stir the pot, you know who you are.

I still am not very comfortable how the "latest posts" portion on the front page is displayed. It looks more cluttered and with the topic and author the same color. It kind of drives me crazy that every topic starts with RE: I don't think people care that the thread is being replied to. We just want to know what thread is getting talked about. When every topic starts with RE: it is just not sharp. I think that would personally be my #1 complaint right now.

All in all I am pleased with the change. I think there are a few little changes that can be made, which is to be expected with a new site. Thanks for being concerned with what everyone thinks and for all you guys do to make such a fun site.

Any changes?

1-- On the homepage, using the IE7 browser there is space between the Latest posts column and the far right column leaving white space. Same with the Example Correspondent Article block. It has white space between it and the far right column.

However, in Firefox, it loads nicely spread out and looks better. Any other IE7 users seeing the same thing on the homepage? Any other IE(Internet Explorer) versions that have this problem?

2-- The drop down box on the bottom right corner in certain forums and when finished adding a reply, it doesn't include the FOOTBALL forum as an option.

3-- The FORUMS >> SPORTS >> FOOTBALL links at the top left, should ALSO be on the BOTTOM left so you don't have to scroll back to the top to navigate back to the forums.

4-- The addition of "(User)" and "(Moderator)" and "(Admin)" to the right of the usernames is really unnecessary and an eye-sore. As a moderator it SAYS moderator under my avatar so clarifying it next to my username is redundant all over again. And it is pretty much a given that if they are not a moderator or admin, they are a user. Do we NEED a title added after the usernames that pushes the username to the left and not centered above the avatars?

5-- The Blue Column background that surrounds the username and avatar is all one size. So, can the avatars be allowed more WIDTH since some of us have LANDSCAPE shaped avatars. i.e. wider than taller. So, the resize makes the avatar that much smaller. If we are going to have avatars, and the filesize is the same saved to the server...then allow them to be a little bigger for better viewing.

I think those are the suggestions I have for now. I had some of these for Mark earlier but as the replies stopped coming, I think he is tired of my suggestions.
