1st half in the books..Lucky to be 1-1. Defense is okay but..ugh, this squad sucks on offense as predicted. It's painful to watch Eddie Johnson's lazy and timid style of play. He has the speed to outrun the defense but doesn't have the attacking mindset to finish... and we're seriously missing Donovan/Beasley's control and creativity in midfield. Maybe a change of game plan coming for the second half?

I think the only thing that would help is if Argentina decided not to play their best players. Seriously Crespo, Heinze, Cambiasso, Zanetti, Riquelme, Messi! This is almost the US Under-23s against the top team from Argentina. I would be very happy with a 1-1 draw and one point out of this game. That would say a lot about the young players for the US. If there is some way they can pull out a win, then that would be great for the confidence.

We look like a joke. I still don't get why we'd even show up with second and third tier players, just to get creamed.. and as I write this another goal is scored.. 4-1. While this may give "experience" to younger players, it sure as hey ain't building confidence.. which is what the US needs against teams outside CONCACAF.

I still don't understand why the US would accept the invitation to go to the Copa America and then only send a B team. One of the supposed reasons they accepted was so they could get their potential WC'10 players some experience playing in high pressure situations against the best competition. Beating the teams of CONCACAF only a little more challenging than beating the clubs of the AFC (Asia). With the team the US sent this time, they'll be lucky to get another invitation down the road.

That being said, the US has gotten its tough fixture out of the way and can work on some more manageable competition. It'll still be a minor miracle if they make it out of the group stage.

How about Mexico and their 2-0 victory over Brasil? As much as I don't like the Mexican team, at least someone is toeing the line for CONCACAF. Unlike Sunday against the US when Mexico lost on an amazing strike by Feilhaber, last night Mexico was on the good side of a world class goal--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYhqZqV1Omw.
