Not to mention that Neilsen is a high quality guy. While I realize that Detmer is as well I have had no interaction with him. Having met Neilsen I came away highly impressed. Outstanding individual and still quite the celebrity in the Houston area.

I don't think they are going to seal his number up for the eternities. I think they are just honoring it and what they accomplished. I just checked the roster and it shows Tyler Kozlowski and Corby Hodgkiss are going to wear that number this year.

I just got chills from thinking what it will be like honoring those greats during that game. Wow! LES is going to be rockin'.

I've spoken with both of them in person in non-game settings. Detmer is as quality as they come. Neilsen is all that as well. But if you honor Neilsen (which I'd support) then you've got to honor Wilson too. Kinda hard to hit all four of those and leave out Jim (who was great, but shouldn't be honored by a school he publically lambasted). So I could see them drawing the line at Detmer.

I think this would be a great honor for Detmer. Even though he didn't do as well as some people would have liked him to in the NFL, he deserves it very much. Hopefully the rumor comes true :)

He was too small to make it in the NFL, but man... he was sure one great BYU QB!!! If his jersey is retired... my hat is off to BYU.

RED LETTER DAY, folks! The Wolf Howled in approval of a BYU player. Granted, it was one from years gone by, but these are baby steps we are taking here.

Holy Crap, something positive from Wolfie. Good job man. I do agree with you, Detmer was one of the greats when it comes to playing college football. My Brother is coming home from Iraq for 2 weeks and is going to to game with me. It will be his first game in LES in 15 years, so I really hope they decide to retire the number.
