Good article. I always thought it was a great move for BYU to go the PDL route since D-I was basically out of the question. Although the PDL is a great opportunity for the program, I would like to see the team one day gain D-I status.

Post edited by: cougfan1, at: 2007/08/03 08:22

Were the reasons D-1 was out of the question the typical Title IX and funding issues? Or were there other reasons unique to BYU? I always thought that BYU should be able to compete very well at the D-1 level given the dominance of the club teams.

If the cougs dominate PDL can they move up to a higher league? Travel might prevent that from happening. Wouldn't it be great if they could make it to the Major Soccer league?

BYU will never make the MLS, but it would be interesting to see them in the USL 2nd Division. If they did that, the players would have to be listed as professionals, though they wouldn't be making a salary. As long as no one was planning on transferring to an NCAA school, it wouldn't matter. But first of all, they have to start dominating the PDL.

Oh give them a few years. If you look at how far they have grown in 6 years then the future looks bright. I know that the coach is stepping down but he will still be around.
