It's not a surprise. As Bronco and BYU have both "raised the bar" regarding off the field conduct of the football team we can probably expect more transfers, suspensions, and dismissals for situations like this. BYU has tough standards for typical college kids. Hopefully it will serve as a wake up call of all of the players involved and make them significant contributors in the future.

I'm not too worried about what these kids did. It's not my business to know their mistakes, and judging from Bronco's punishment it doesn't seem to be anything bigger than transgressions of youth. I know that I am glad that I didn't have newspapers reporting on all of my mistakes when I was 18...especially because I wouldn't want my wife looking them all up eight years later

This is bad bad bad. Kessman was such a great story. Committed to BYU so far in advance...seemed to be fully invested. This is not good if it is all true. All I can say, is that there better be a legit reason for these suspended players.
A couple of things. First, you say there better be a "legit reason" for the suspensions. I can assure you there is. In fact, I'm a little surprised they were only suspended from practice and not from the team, at least for a while. They signed an honor code, and they were caught breaking it. Second, you say that Kessman was such a great story. Unfortunately, that story was not translating into success on the field. It wouldn't surprise me if he did transfer from school this year, because, as totally invested as he seemed when he committed, he has been struggling at least that much on the team. I could say more, but I'll simply leave it at this: Coach Mendenhall has been patient and understanding in this and other, related affairs. There is no reason to question his judgment.
For those wondering if it was an honor code violation..our own Cruiser confirms this...

I'm always glad to read Cruiser and McGregor's take on things. Definitely helps counteract the Chicken Little reaction that happens so frequently (including with myself; when I heard this morning that so many players were suspended at one time, I had a Crowton flashback). But definitely, we should all trust that Bronco (a) is a man of principle and committed to his players upholding the standards of the university, and (b) the actions he's taken are appropriate, and if the player is the right kind of player for BYU, he'll do what he needs to do to get back in good standing with the team and he'll have learned a valuable lesson. Like Tialavea, Manase Tonga, Terrance Hooks, So'oto, etc. (I can't remember now if Vic was ever suspended...)
