I feel pretty confident that the strength of our defense will be able to contain the running game. I have read a few articles which indicate that BYU is not looking past UNLV, but they have a quiet confidence in what they are practicing and preparing for.

I am actually excited to see the secondary play against the Sanford spread offense. I think our DBs are much better than even a few weeks ago, due to the playing time some have received as a result of injuries. I look for our front seven to do a great job on the run game and pressure their QB into some picks and mistakes.

Go Cougars!

If our guys couldn't tackle (ala Yewtah) then i would be concerned. This guy sort of reminds me of Quinton "Q do what Q want to do" Ganther.

I think we shut this buffet-buster down tomorrow.

Not worried at all. BYU stopped Rodney Ferguson last week, and that was a better New Mexico offense. We also had the two top receivers in the conference and a mobile quarterback to deal with last week. So, if we can defend all of that and still stop Ferguson, I don't think Frank Summers poses too much of a problem.

UNLV has one of the worst passing offenses in the conference. It's not just because they run the ball either. Dixon's pass efficiency rating of 110.8 is 7th in the conference. I doubt Summers even sniffs 100 yards.

You are right. I think Ferguson is a better back and the team shut down his run game this year after giving up about 130 yards last year. Further, Summers has played a few good games so he's not an unknown to Bronco. BYU holds UNLV to about 200 yards total offense and cruises to a win.

Our front 7 is very solid against the run and I think they will turn "Frank the Tank" into "Frank the Pinto" this week.

In that case he will explode on rear impact. Perhaps there is a better way of saying that, but I am too tired to think of one.

I am actually not that nervous about him. He isn't like the dude from NM. Frank the tank doesn't have the vision that kid did. Frank is just a big kid that can plow through people. Against the pukes that is all he did. Granted, the pukes looked pitiful and were trying to arm tackle him for the most part. I think with BYU comin off the bye and having time to prepare for him that our Def. will really contain him. I am more nervous about their passing game. UNLV's qb looked good against Wisconsin and i am still a little gun shy after the Tulsa debacle.

I maintain that Tulsa (yes, a debacle) was an aberration. First off, they had a bye week to prepare for us, after playing CONSERVATIVELY against UL-Monroe. Secondly, our defense was ill-prepared, thinking Tulsa was going to run the ball more and play straight-up ball.

Keep in mind also that UNLV has one of the worst Pass Efficiency Differential Differential ratios in the conference (Difference between Pass Efficiency on offense & defense, compared to ours). Based on the statistics, we have nearly an 80% chance of winning, barring freakish turnovers or a lack of desire to run the ball...

We'll be fine.
