You gotta love Whittingham for the doofus he is. All season long, he's been touting how he's been learning from his mistakes over the past few seasons and what to do or not what to do in certain situations. Last year, after deciding to rush 3 guys on BYU's last play of the game from the 12 yard line, which ultimately gave Beck enough time to find an open Johnny Harline in the endzone, he took a ton of heat for not blitzing or going after Beck so as to force him to make a quick pass. So... what does he do to prove he's learned from that mistake last year... rushes 3 guys on the 4th and 18 play, giving Hall the time and field necessary to find Collie open down the sideline for a 50 YARD GAIN! Hello McFly... anybody home? Brainless. And nice D Utes!!! Well Kyle, now you've gotta live with "Collie is still open" for the next year! Utah bites.
Realistically, most of the game looked like the first scrimmage of the year for both teams... sloppy play, dropped passes, stupid penalties, etc. To me, it was a testament to how bad the rest of the conference really is when your two best teams go out and play like that in a rivalry game. Utah actually lost their 3 best offensive players early in the year and BJ was clearly not at 100% and for them to have gone on that 7 game win streak was impressive. Both defenses are about equal in talent, but at full strength, Utah's offense is more potent than BYU's.

they rushed 4, and they only rushed 2 on the play last year (giononi came in late, he wasn't originally supposed to rush)

That still left seven guys to cover four or five. And yet once again the utes forgot how to cover! Hence Harline and now Collie is still open! That was the play that broke the camels back! I was just glad that we had another chance. I thought the ball was intercepted but then I saw them drop it. I was happy, but things didn't look good. Then weall know what happened. Once again I'm so glad that we have Bronco over Dimwhitt! I'm not sure what our program would look like if we had Dimwhitt as our head coach? Go cougs!

It's still stupid! Why wouldn't you put heat on a QB in a 4th and 18 situation with the game on the line to force a quick pass, especially a young QB like Hall? Kyle is going to have to live the next year with another BYU receiver being open on a 4th and long play that ultimately resulted in a win for the Cougs.

Are you trying to rationalize their loss? Utah was missing their unproven, first year D-I running back, some O-linemen, and...? How much NOT full strength were they? Max Hall had a "substantial" shoulder injury, Unga hurt his ankle, Collie and Allen had sore ankles, Fui has a banged up ankle and hand, yada yada. It still made no difference.
Take a look at the game stats, and show me where it was even close. BYU's offense is more potent, hands down.
