Yep, Utah led with 1:30 to go in the 4th quarter.
But they only led for one minute out of 60. Are you honestly going to tell me that Utah was the better team in that game? The better team would outplay and out-execute the other team. Utah did not do that. BYU outgained them offensively both in rushing AND passing, Hall had a better QB efficiency rating, BYU equaled them on turnovers, AND BYU outscored them. Our offense was better (five trips to the blue zone resulting in four scores, as compared to Utah's three resulting in two), and our defense was better in that we allowed far fewer yards. In NO way was Utah a better team than BYU on Saturday. And, if Utah wasn't better than BYU....then that means that BYU was better than Utah. And they have a victory to prove it.
Utah is good, no doubt about it. They were indeed missing some critical components to their team, but those replacements weren't exactly boiled cabbage. Don't forget that BYU also had significant injuries as well, the most notable being the decimation at the safety position as well as Vakapuna.
And to add to all of this, had Unga not dropped that 4th down pass with about 9 minutes to go, he would have scored, and Utah's TD, IF it had happened would have been meaningless. There were at least two occasions where BYU had easy TDs that for one reason or another didn't happen. This game shouldn't have been close, and the fact that it was had nothing to do with Utah's execution or good defensive play.
