I watched this game...well, 3 and 1/4 quarters of it...sweet deal with the Dukies going into overtime, btw.
I rooted for Navy...and no, I won't defend not rooting for a fellow conference team in a bowl game.
I have but just a few thoughts on this thing.
1) Navy has no semblence of defense, yet they stymied Yewtah's O until the Yewts tried stretching the field. Either Ludwig VonBeethoven doesn't trust BJ's arm, or he's just too slow to re-act and adjust - it almost cost them a game they should have easily won.
2) Yewtah still can't defend the option. You play AFA every year. How in the world do you not get better at it? Yewtah always seems to struggle against anything on the edge...here's a hint fellas: slow LB's (and only 3 on the field due to the 4-3) and cornerbacks being asked to be the contain man at the point of attack. Oh, and Robert Johnson doesn't want to have to tackle another RB on a pitch again after last night I promise you.
3) Yewtah still can't get a foot when they need it. Good thing the Navy D was dead by time the Yewts got the ball back inside the 20 or the Yewts lose another game because they are pu$$ie$ up front.
4) If you stop the trick plays, Yewtah struggles to score. Navy did it well until Brooks breaks the reverse for the TD. BYU stopped that non-sense and it killed Yewtah's offense.
All in all, Navy COULD have won this game easily based on the opportunities they left on the field, and Yewtah SHOULD have won this game easily given Navy's defensive deficiencies.
Good to see a RM head coach who happens to be Poly as well. Big fan of the guy.
