Navy got screwed on the Utrah 3rd down play. That should have been a touchback and Navy ball on the 20.

I don't get that call, they guy was in the air and the ball hit the pile on, and the pile on is part of the goal line.

The only thing I can think of is the reviewing official did not know the rule and was looking to see if the ball crossed the line and checking to see if it was a touchdown.

The pylon is part of the goal line, but once control is lost, it becomes part of the sideline. A fumble by an offensive player that goes through the endzone is a turnover and touchback. The refs blew a very simple and obvious call.

I don't think it cost Navy the game because I'm not sure they would have driven 80 yards for the tying or winning score, but the refs cost them that chance.

From the NCAA Rule book:
Rule Four, Section Two, Article 3 A and B: "A ball not in player possess, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds withn it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is on or outside a boundary line.
"A ball that touches a pylon is out of bounds behind the goal line
."

And from Rule Eight, Section Six, Article 1: "Team A's fumble strikes the plyon at the intersection of Team B's goal line and sideline. RULING: Team B's ball at the 20-yard line (Rule 7-2-4-b)."

The rule is clear and the officials missed it.

There is an article on ESPN this morning about the game last night. They are reporting that the officials issued a statement about this play and that they made a mistake. The ball should have been given to Navy at the 20.

Well, that does a lot of good now. We will never know if it would have changed the outcome. BUT, these officials need to know the rules! If they are going to review a call to see if it right or not, they have got to know the rule book!

Here's an article in the Deseret News about how the refs admitted they blew the call. I've never heard of this happening before

It's sad that the Ute's needed their typical trick play to get momentum then roll a little against NAVY!!! That's the Ute's for you if they have the momentum they can beat anyone in the country, and I truely believe that. However live by momentum only die by the lack thereof (AFA, UNLV, and OSU). That is the problem when you play with inferior talent but an incredible amount of emotion. I will give you props that you guys play better on momentum highs then any other team in the country.

I can already hear the taunts INFERIOR TALENT WHAT???? your stud RB had 22 touches rushing for 76 YDS against NAVY the 92nd ranked defense in the country, weak!!!! He did have two touchdowns but should have done better against a small fat and slow D-Line and slower LB's.

I hope the rest of the MWC teams perform during this bowl seasons and
people will quickly forget about that crap last night.

I love the fact that someone spent money to rub salt in an open Ute wound. One more reason to love this rivalry!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! Somebody tell me there is a picture of this somewhere! There is a Yewt VP in my company that needs it to wallpaper his office or something like that.

Wow! That is awesome! Suckers! Because they are both so true! I still have no idea how the pukes have won that many bowl games in a row especially the last three years!

Look at the "quality" of the opponents. That explains their record...
