UNLV is a pretty mediocre team, the fact that we lost to them by 30 just shows how much confidence Trent and JT have lost since the beginning of the season, and how poorly we play on the road.
UNLV is one of those teams that seems to get up for BYU and plays like mediocre crap against everybody else.
What's surprising is it was at home for UNLV, right? They should have played better on that fact alone, as it is their team's identity from what Greg Wrubell explained in his blog back when we played them the first time.
UNLV played out of their minds in the first half against BYU and I doubt zone D would have made a difference. They hit some crazy 3 pointers that no self respecting NBA gunner would have taken. They were 7-10 behind the arc and 3 of those shots were from at least 25 feet out. BYU was 2-10 behind the arc in the first half, which is a 15 point differential. Factor in BYU's lousy shooting from the free throw line and UNLV had no trouble being up by 19 at the half. BYU was in such a hole at half time they just couldn't get out of it.
Seeing BYU come back and beat Utah on the road and gutting out a tough home game against the league leader even though their shot wasn't falling well are character builders for this team for when they play the rest of the conference. I really doubt they will be threatened at home the rest of the season and there are 3-4 more wins they can get on the road. They could well finish 13-3.
The interesting thing will be how does Rose adjust with JT in a complete slump from the arc and TP struggling from the line. Cummard is the heart of this team. Who's going to step up and get the rest of the team in line? Keena did it last season, will Lee do it this year?
