I'm reminded of mcgregor's thread about being innocent until proven guilty and ask the question, "Why does everybody assume it's the bishop with the problem? We've only heard one biased side of the story"

Maybe the bishop was over the top or maybe the player and his family aren't telling the whole story.

You bring up a good point. I guess I shouldn't just rush to judgement. I guess I have just seen many great leaders out there but I have also seen a few that when they get a little power... you know what happens. From what I have heard about this particular bishop (and professor) there are people that think he is the kind of guy that wants to look important. I haven't had first hand experience with him so I guess I shouldn't judge.

I am a bishop and cannot believe this is the whole story. I hate it when they hold the atheletes to a HIGHER standard than the regular students. I know this can be fixed. He is a kid. Give him a break. Go Cougs

That's what I am talking about. Sounds like you are one of the great bishops out there. Even if he was missing church, pull him in and talk it out and work with him. He was only a freshman and I just don't get it. I could see if he were a junior or senior and had not been going the whole time but come on try to help the kid out instead of break him down.

If the bishop had continually warned him in person, then probably deserves it but I just don't see how it could have been such a huge problem when he hasn't been at the school very long. I also find it interesting that the Honor Code Office doesn't have any problems with him and the school is behind the kid.

Like they say, the church is perfect, not the members. I personally cannot see a benefit to the kid, to the church or to BYU by doing this I'm frankly a tad embarassed and worry what potential students will think of this.

I've never heard of a bishop withdrawing an ecclesiastical endorsement if someone has not violated the Honor Code, or broke the law, and attended church at least 50% of the time. That's why I really, really hope there is more to the story.

Oh, I agree, 100%. Knowing just what has been reported, it's an extremely embarrassing situation for BYU right now, and a bum deal for the kid. Based on what we know.
