YES I AM YELLING ABOUT THIS ONE. THIS STORY OF THE BASEBALL PLAYER IS AN ABSOLUTE ABBORATION. WE NEED TO EMAIL TOM HOLMOE AND HAVE HIM STEP IN AND OVER RULE THIS RIDICULOUS DECISION. STUFF LIKE THIS IS GOING TO RUIN OUR RECRUITING OF BOTH NON LDS AND LDS PLAYERS. KEARL IS AN IDIOT, AND SO IS THAT BLASTED BISHOP WHO MADE THIS DECISION. EVEN IF HE WAS SITTING AT HOME WATCHING FOOTBALL ISTEAD OF GOING TO CHURCH. I WONDER IF PRESIDENT HINCKLEY WOULD BACK UP THIS RIDICULOUS OUTCOME.

You know, as I read this story, the thought that kept coming to me was, "We don't know all the facts." From what I read, Pres. Samuelson knows about it, obviously, and didn't do anything to stop it. WOuldn't you think that the University President, who DOES know all of the facts and has heard both sides, would correct it if it truly was an injustice? Just my $.02.

And, for the record, if it really is as simple as the bishop didn't think he went to church enough and so pulled his ecclesiastical endoresement, and there is NOTHING else to the story, then I agree that it's wrong. I'm just not sure that's all there is to the story.

Are you kidding? Tom Holmoe has no authority to do anything about this.

Also, given the fact that we are all relying on conjecture and an article written in the anti-LDS Salt Lake Tribune, I think we need to be careful about how reliable our information is. All I know is that it is a privilege to attend BYU. Students there receive great benefits in tuition and facilities and maybe we need to be held to a higher standard. I recognize that that needs to be balanced with mercy and helping people work through issues. But if an individual is not working through it or thinks that they are more important/bigger than the rules, how long should they continue to receive those benefits? It is hard to say in that situation that consequences don't apply. Given the fact that a stake president/board of trustees is involved... It is hard for me to believe that this is solely an attendance issue. Unfortunately, though, these are all statements of conjecture on my part. That is what it all comes down to... We just do not know what happened. That is why I am still trying to decide about this whole issue. It is also why I feel like we are not the people to do anything about it. We do not have the necessary information to properly act.

Ultimately, I think we are best served to let the process work itself out. I think there are systems in place that will allow the right outcome. We might not understand it, but I believe that, in the end, the right thing will happen.

I find it hard to beleive that it was only an attendance issue as well. But all signs are pointing to that being the case. I also find it a privledge to be a BYU student, but when there are problems as big as fornication, pornography etc, and these students are helped through their problems. But we kick out the guy who doesnt go to church enough? And Tom Holmoe could make something happen with his clout.

It is completely out of Tom Holmoe's hands there really is NOTHING he can do. As for the dismaissal being right or wrong, at this point no one has enough details to know. Jumping to the conclusion that the Bishop is wrong and calling a Stake President an idiot seems harsh and undeserving. If you have some insight no one else does please share it other wise I think your assumptions are misguided and ridiculous.
