Amen. I hope that he comes to regret this decision. He passed on an opportunity to be coached by a possible future general authority in favor of Pete Carroll. BYU needs to win this year and follow Bronco's edict of perfection. If they can, the tone may be far different next year when it comes to Manti.

Ouch. :huh: It looks evident that the factors that went into his decision are pretty different than the ones that would have gone into yours. Nevertheless, he made a "football" decision and as a football matter, we can at least respect the fact that he made a decision on the basis of what he considered to be the best football factors. Let's say your somewhat outlandish comment (Bronco becoming a GA) turns out to be prophetic; even if Kaveinga had known this, does that make his decision "wrong"? It depends on what it was based--if he made the decision based on where he thought he'd receive the best ecclesiastical guidance from his football coach, he was wrong. If he made it on the basis of where he'd have a chance to play for a national title and be close to his family, his decision wasn't "wrong."

Shpider, my point is that BYU comes in strong as far as "football factors"...but in addition, BYU's players have the chance to observe a true leader in action. I suspect that this is why Uona's dad wanted him to commit to us. I also suspect that you already understood what I meant in the original post.

Guys, I'm as big a BYU fan as anybody (ask my wife and kids, take a look at all the beautiful blue apparel in my wardrobe), but I've got to step back a bit and take an objective perspective on what is happening in the fan reactions. Remember how we reveled a little in KWitt's "sour grapes" attitude when he lost Harvey Unga, and how that sore loser attitude (telling Harvey he'd regret the decision, that BYU would convert him to a LB, etc.) actually helped confirm Harvey's decision to come to BYU-- especially when juxtaposed against Lance Reynolds' selfless reply when Unga told Reynolds that he was going to Utah, just to test him (where Reynolds said he wished Unga the best and thought Unga would have a great career)? And have we forgotten that Unga verbally committed to the U before ultimately changing his mind? Is he a flake?

Yeah, we're disappointed. So we wish misfortune on the kid to make ourselves feel better? To get some sense of vindication that we really were "right" all along and he was "wrong"?

This makes us sound a lot more like KWitt than anyone associated with Bronco and the high class program he is developing at BYU.

I'll reiterate my wish--that Kaveinga has some valuable experiences this fall at USC, that he matures, then he has a fantastic mission experience and decides that Zion for him is Provo, UT, with all the other BYU Tongan football players. Regardless of what happens, let's show some Bronco-style class.

I found myself getting excited on multiple occassions thinking about the prospects of having Uona and Te'o among others roaming the field. I am disappointed but that disappointment is selfish to me because of where my loyalties are as a fan. I wish him well and hope he finds everything at USC that he envisioned for himself when he picked them.

I would also love to be a fly on the wall in Pete's office and hear what he says when no one else is around, when it comes to signing potential missionaries. I hope Uona keeps his commitment to the Lord and serves a mission. I hope Pete keeps his commitment to Uona and honors his scholarship without hardship.

Please man. Get over your little "WWBD" crap. Sure, I wish the kid the best down at USC, but get off your high horse. And yes, I am pissed because he didn't his committment. He is a flake! Hopefully he wil change his mind while he is on his mission.
