Here's to a great 2009. We already have 2 4 star commits, and have 2 other 4-5 star guys that we have a legitimate chance at (Te'o and Martinez). Unfortunately/Fortunately USC has already offered both of the other guys. Here is to a BCS bowl game and the best class in the history of BYU in 2009.
The LDS/Utah talent next year is supposed to be one of the best ever, so why not a Top5 season finish and a Top15 recruiting finish!

Based on what I'm hearing from Martinez's dad on TBS, I doubt we have much of a shot with John. I suspect both Teo and Martinez will be USC bound.

I don't think I can stomach a year of talking about 2009 recruits. How about finally seeing what DiLuigi can do!

My thoughts are that if BYU lives up to expectations this season and makes it to a BCS bowl, then the recruiting benefits will follow.

I am concerned that USC's change of policy will lure more LDS athletes to play for them, but if Carroll backs out of his deal to save scholarships for mission bound players, then it could turn to BYU's benefit with Bronco being a man of his word.

Once BYU breaks into the BCS, the mtn. will get a deal with the satellites (if the rumors about this season aren't true). One reason why the MWC signed with the mtn. through CSTV is because even after breaking into the BCS party, ESPN gave the MWC zero respect and credit for that. With BYU having back to back 11-2 seasons and breaking into a BCS bowl game this season, the MWC will be a hot commodity going into next season. I would really like to see the BCS invite the MWC into the fold (that is if the BCS doesn't self destruct first). That will end a lot of the power other BCS teams have in luring LDS athletes away from BYU.

although it wouldn't surprise me if they both went to usc, i think we have a shot at both. the tbs article mentioned that the martines kid, though not lds, has followed byu due to family connections (kafusi). plus byu was the first to offer, so the letter was framed and on the wall. the te'o kid has a family connection as well as a positive impression of both byu and bronco. that gives us a chance, which is more then most schools will get, even bcs ones (insert dumb and dumber reference here...."so your saying there's a chance&quot.

I hear what you are saying, but a guy like Pete Carroll isn't going to change much of his policy. I fully expect Uona will never serve a mission - not because he doesn't want to right now either.

I agree--where Carroll is concerned, I'll have to see it to believe it. That being said, there aren't that many athletes where we compete directly head-to-head with USC for them, so I don't think this will affect our recruiting too badly. And if Carroll is proved a liar, then that could actually be good for BYU in the long run, because people won't believe him the next time he offers to hold a scholarship during a mission.
