So does this mean that the only way to watch the Mountian West Conference is to order direct tv? Will they show any games on ESPN, CBS, ABC or any other network?
The broadcasting deal is still the same, which means MWC home games will be on Versus/CSTV/mtn. BYU's games at Pac 10 opponents will also likely be on Versus, as they picked up the old TBS-Pac 10 contract.
I'll be sticking with my out-of-the-MWC-footprint Comcast service (i.e., no mtn. yet) because on Comcast, I can get the ESPNs (in HD), Versus (in HD), and CSTV with the standard digital channels plus the sports tier. If the past is a decent indicator, those channels will get at least 5-6 of BYU's biggest games (last year, that was Arizona, UCLA, Tulsa, New Mexico, TCU, Utah, and the Las Vegas Bowl). The mtn. only adds a few more obscure games (Eastern Washington anyone?).
The problem with Direct TV is that as far as I can tell, Versus is on the most expensive programming package, so I'll end up with lots of stuff I won't ever watch. Because I'm a huge hockey fan and an HD addict, Versus HD is a must. The other advantage of Comcast (as much as I hate them) is that I can change/cancel my service at any time without incurring a penalty.
