I'm just not seeing UW as an upgrade for Coach Mendenhall. $$ maybe, but he seems to be more interested in other things. Plus, how did Elder Eyring advise? "Run this program as the Savior would...then cash out for big bucks and move up to the Pac-10." I never heard the last part of that.

1. Bronco Mendenhall, BYU
There's a chance he might stick around Provo and not be off elsewhere, he's a true believer in the BYU program, but if he keeps up what he's been doing over the past few years, he might get an offer he can't refuse. He was all about restoring the pride to the program, and he's done that and then some going 28-10 with two straight 11-2, Mountain West-title seasons. A former Oregon State defensive back, would taking over for Mike Riley be a big enough move coming from BYU? Probably not, but for a coach who's fantastic at respecting traditions and making one-time powerhouses great again, he might be a natural for a name Pac 10 program like ...
The Next Logical Step: Washington head football coach

I'll take the compliment to Bronco, but going to Washington would be a step down for him right now...

I'm not really sure that more money would be an issue. I know that BYU doesn't pay as much money as some of the other schools, so on paper it looks pretty bad what are coaches are paid compared to other schools. In reality however, we have some Cougar Club members with deep pockets who are more then willing to help compensate coaches salaries. So on paper it looks like they aren't making as much because their salaries are only reported as what BYU is paying them. It doesn't consider the compensation from Cougar Club members. And last time I checked...Cougar Club members are in love with Bronco and his staff.

Even if another big time school comes knocking it won't be money that will take Bronco away from us. Cougar Club members will make sure of that. It would be the chance to lead a big time school, and nothing more, that will take him away. That's why I really don't think he'll be leaving us...at least not for another school. He might end up retiring earlier then we want him to because I don't think he wants to coach long term, but when he chooses to retire...I believe he will still be in Cougar Blue. Just my two cents, so take it for what it's worth.

Go Cougs!

I hope Bronco never leaves, but I could see him at a place like Washington. They could offer Bronco more money, a better football tradition, and the ability to play in better bowl games and in a better conference than BYU has access to.

Plus, one could easily enjoy the outdoors in that part of the country and we know Bronco likes the outdoors.

rasta,
I love your posts and almost always agree with you even when others don't, AND I realize you may be being sarcastic here. BUT just in case...

I'm here supposed to be working but I just have to weigh in on this one. More money, on paper...yes.
Better football tradition...I don't know about that one.
Ability to play in better bowl games...true for now and also when the team isn't performing great.
Enjoy the outdoors easily?...I don't see how he could enjoy the outdoors in Washington any easier than he could in Utah.
Good thoughts nonetheless. Karma to the original poster for getting this started.
