Bronco named #1 non-BCS coach 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 91
College Football News named Bronco Mendenhall the #1 non-BCS coach in the country. They said he is "on the verge of being a superstar."

1. Bronco Mendenhall, BYU
There's a chance he might stick around Provo and not be off elsewhere, he's a true believer in the BYU program, but if he keeps up what he's been doing over the past few years, he might get an offer he can't refuse. He was all about restoring the pride to the program, and he's done that and then some going 28-10 with two straight 11-2, Mountain West-title seasons. A former Oregon State defensive back, would taking over for Mike Riley be a big enough move coming from BYU? Probably not, but for a coach who's fantastic at respecting traditions and making one-time powerhouses great again, he might be a natural for a name Pac 10 program like ...
The Next Logical Step: Washington head football coach

As far as Bronco going to Washington---forget it. I think he'll be around for years to come, but BYU will need to keep his salary at least somewhat competitive.

Join us in the Cougar Club Coaches Circle....you get Legacy II Status for a $5K donation each year for 5 years, and Legacy seats for $1K each year. Good news is that it goes to "all" coaches, so you're helping them keep Rose as well.

But even if you can't chip in that amount, I'm sure that any amount you can would be appreciated and go towards keeping our coaches. As they say, every little bit helps.

If I didn't live so far away I think I might stand outside of the bookstore on weekends decked in BYU garb and ringing a bell in front of a donation bucket...all proceeds going to keeping our coaches. Hey whatever it takes right. I would be singing the cougar fight song as well, of course.

Go Cougs!

You'd have to be sure you didn't sing too loud...

There is just no way Bronco is going to be leaving BYU ever. BYU finally started doling out more respectable paychecks to their coaches and while still not crazy-money contracts, they are still very above average and they can be assured that their job is safe as long as they continue to win most of the time.

Besides Bronco never would have come out and said "I'll be here as long as they'll have me" if he thought that it was a possibility at any point in the future that he'd leave. Because then he would look like a phony and wouldn't be keeping his 'word' which we all know is important to him. He expects it of everyone else around him almost as much as he expects it of himself.

Plus he isn't all about the money. He knows what the unique duty of the BYU coach is and he is all about it. No, this guy is a lifer or will at least be manning the helm for another 15 years I'll bet. That actually doesn't seem that long compared to some guys like Lavell, Bowden and Paterno, but that's a nice long college football coaching career for most.
